なお、上記一般式(I)で表される環状ホスファゼン化合物としては、nが3または4の整数であり、Rが、それぞれ独立してハロゲン、アルコキシ基、アリールオキシ基またはアミノ基から構成された環状ホスファゼン化合物を用いるのが好ましい。上記一般式(I)で示される環状ホスファゼン化合物としては、例えば、nが3の整数であり、かつ、Rのうち4つがクロロ基、残りの2つがアミノメチル基であるものを用いることができる。また、上記一般式(I)で示されるその他の環状ホスファゼン化合物としては、nが3の整数であり、Rが全てフェノキシ基であるものを用いることができる。このようなホスファゼン化合物を用いると、非水電解液電池の内部温度が90℃以下では、ホスファゼン化合物の粒子が非水電解液電池に溶解(または分散)し難く、非水電解液電池の内部温度が90℃を超えたときに、ホスファゼン化合物の粒子の少なくとも一部が液化して非水電解液に溶解(または分散)することができる。
まず、正極板の正極活物質として、リチウムコバルト複合酸化物(LiCoO2)を用意する。このリチウムコバルト複合酸化物と、導電剤であるアセチレンブラックと、結着剤であるポリフッ化ビニリデンとを、質量比90:5:5で混合し、これをN-メチルピロリドンの溶媒に分散させてスラリーを調製した。このスラリーを、正極集電体としてのアルミニウム箔に塗布して乾燥した後、プレス加工を施して、正極シートを作製した。この正極シートを10cm×20cmに切り取り、アルミニウム箔の集電タブを溶接して正極板3を作製した。
まず、負極活物質として、人造黒鉛を用意する。この人造黒鉛と、結着剤であるポリフッ化ビニリデンとを、質量比90:10で混合し、これをN-メチルピロリドンの溶媒に分散させてスラリーを調製した。このスラリーを、銅箔の負極集電体に塗布して乾燥した後、プレス加工を施して、負極シートを作製した。この負極シートを10cm×20cmに切り取り、切り取ったシートにニッケル箔の集電タブを溶接して負極板5を作製した。
このように作製した正極板と負極板との間に、ポリエチレンからなるセパレータシートを挟んで、正極板、負極板およびセパレータシートを積層して電池容量が8Ahになるように積層体11を作製した。
まず、エチレンカーボネート50体積%とジメチルカーボネート50体積%とからなる混合溶媒を調製した。この混合溶媒に、濃度が1mol/LになるようにLiPF6 を溶解させて電解質溶液を調製した。調製した電解質溶液に、難燃化剤として以下に示す環状ホスファゼン化合物を適宜添加して、非水電解液9を調製した。
本例では、難燃化剤として、以下の環状ホスファゼン化合物(ホスファゼン化合物A~G)を用いた。ホスファゼン化合物Aは、上記一般式(I)において、nが3であって、全Rのうち4つがクロロ基で、2つがアミノメチル基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は99℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Bは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、6つのRが全てフェノキシ基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は110~111℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Cは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、全Rのうち5つがクロロ基で、1つがフェノキシ基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は20℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Dは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、6つのRが全てアミノプロピル基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は90℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Eは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、6つのRが全てアミノエチル基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は120℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Fは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、全Rのうち2つがクロロ基で、2つがフェニル基、2つがアミノメチル基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は132℃)である。ホスファゼン化合物Gは、上記の一般式(I)において、nが3であって、6つのRが全てアミノエチル基の環状ホスファゼン化合物(融点は145℃)である。
熱融着フィルム(アルミラミネートフィルム)からなる一端が開口した外装材(後にケース13となる)の中に、作製した積層体11を挿入し、さらに調製した非水電解液9を外装材中に注入した。その後、外装材中を真空にして、すばやく外装材の開口部をヒートシールして、平板状ラミネート電池の構造を有する非水電解液電池(リチウムイオン二次電池1)を作製した。
上記のように作製した非水電解液電池(ラミネート電池)について、難燃性(電池の安全性)を評価した。難燃性の評価は、釘刺し試験により行った。釘刺し試験では、まず、25℃の環境下で、4.2~3.0Vの電圧範囲で、0.1mA/cm2の電流密度による充放電サイクルを2回繰り返し、さらに4.2Vまで電池の充電を行った。その後、同じ25℃の温度条件下で、軸部の直径が3mmのステンレス鋼製の釘を、速度0.5cm/sで電池の側面の中心に垂直に突き刺すことにより、電池の発火(発煙)の有無および電池の破裂・膨張の有無を確認した。
作製した非水電解液電池(ラミネート電池)について、電池特性を評価した。電池特性の評価は、高率放電試験により行った。高率放電試験では、まず、上記の釘刺し試験と同じ条件で充放電サイクルを繰り返して4.2Vまで電池の充電を行った。充電した後、電流24A、終止電圧3.0Vの定電流放電を行った。これにより得られた放電容量を高率放電容量とした。

Claims (9)
- 温度上昇によって非水電解液が発火することを抑制する難燃化剤が前記非水電解液に添加されている非水電解液電池であって、
前記非水電解液の温度が、前記非水電解液が発火する可能性が高くなる基準温度以下では固体として存在して発火抑制機能を発揮せず、前記非水電解液の温度が前記基準温度を超えると少なくとも一部が液化して前記発火抑制機能を発揮する材料からなる多数の難燃化剤粒子が、前記難燃化剤として前記非水電解液に添加されていることを特徴とする非水電解液電池。 - 前記難燃化剤粒子は、前記非水電解液電池の内部温度が90℃以下では前記非水電解液中に固体として存在することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の非水電解液電池。
- 前記難燃化剤粒子の融点が、90~120℃の範囲であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の非水電解液電池。
- 前記難燃化剤粒子が、ホスファゼン化合物の粒子であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の非水電解液電池。
- 前記ホスファゼン化合物が、一般式(I)で表される環状ホスファゼン化合物であることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の非水電解液電池。

- 前記ホスファゼン化合物の粒子の平均粒子径が、20μm以下であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の非水電解液電池。
