Definitions
- the present invention relates to multifunctional textile.
- Textiles are used for varied purposes. During use of textiles in apparel, they are liable to get soiled from the outside by a variety of things such as blood, sputum, ketchup, honey, human excreta and moisture (be it in rainfall or humidity), leading to the build up of harmful bacteria, fungi and viruses on the out surface of the textile. Whereas on the inner surface, when worn next to skin, dead tissue and sweat/humidity/moisture, results in the growth of, and aids the spread of bacteria, fungi and viruses. When apparel, not worn next to skin, in cases such as jackets, overcoats, or a shirt worn over an undershirt, the same penetrates the textiles and has the same reaction on the outer textiles.
- Sheets, pillow covers and gowns are subjected to contamination from open wounds and other medical conditions, such as coughing, wheezing, etc.
- Patient's gowns are contaminated by sweat and/ or human excretion such as urine, stool and vomit.
- Medical staff is very often subjected to the contamination either from soiled textiles used by patients or due to excretions of the body. Medical staffs are major causes of transmitting bacterial infection from one patient to another. Current Medical Textiles offer no barrier protection. Provided herein below are current situation and problems thereof in hospitals.
- the textile need to have properties such as anti-staining, moisture management, sweat transportation, abrasion resistance, insect and mosquito repellent, fire retardant, antistatic, anti-pilling, UV protecting, soil releaser and the like.
- US 3699958 disclose an antimicrobial woven or knitted fabric, characterized in that it is made using crimp yarn and is treated with cation-active antimicrobial compounds such as benzalkyl ammonium derivates, phenolic polyoxymethylene derivates.
- the woven or knitted fabric prepared is used as surgical dressing and as surgical face mask.
- US67807991 discloses an antimicrobial non-woven fabric comprising: a polymeric fiber substrate comprising phosphonic acid groups covalently bonded thereto and antimicrobial agents ionically bonded to the phosphonic acid groups.
- the antimicrobial agent used is benzalkonium chloride.
- US20050062010 discloses a treated textile having applied thereon a treating composition, comprising: (a) a textile substrate; (b) a treating composition, said treating composition comprising: (i) a fluorochemical-containing soil release component; (ii) an antimicrobial agent which is selected from a group consisting of: organic antimicrobial agents, silver- containing resins, silver-containing zeolites, silver-containing glass, silver-based ion exchange compounds, triclosan, inorganic antimicrobial materials, metal based zeolites, metal salts, metal oxides, metal hydroxides, transition metal ions, zinc oxide, pyrithione and derivatives (Zinc Omadine), tributyl oxide derivatives, 3-iodo-2-propylbutyl carbamate, n-butyl-1,2 benziso thiazoline, ⁇ , ⁇ '-oxybisphenoxiarsine, and sodium o-phenylphenate.
