Abstract

Ein bisher in der Abwassertechnik nicht zufriedenstellend gelöstes Problem ist die Denitrifikation für Verfahren mit sessilen Biofilmen. Als Elektronendonor für die Oxidation des Nitrats wird Abwasser rezirkuliert oder künstlicher Kohlestoff zugesetzt; beides ist aufwändig und teuer. Das hier vorgeschlagenen Verfahren umgeht diese Nachteile und arbeitet mit Organismen die der Lage sind Elektronen direkt von einer Kathode aufzunehmen. Das Verfahren schont die Umwelt in mehrfacher Hinsicht: Es wird deutlich weniger Strom verbraucht, der Schlammanfall wird vermindert und der Prozess ist gut steuerbar. Wichtiger Vorteil für die Umwelt ist, das energiesparende Systeme mit sessilen Biofilmen einfach und kostengünstig nachgerüstet werden können.
