Abstract

The invention relates to an electric arc furnace for melting down metal articles, to a control device (9) for an electric arc furnace and to a method for cooling a cooling element (1) present in the electric arc furnace, in particular a cooling panel, wherein the cooling element (1) is cooled by means of a first cooling device (2), wherein the cooling is carried out by means of a phase transition of a coolant (K1) flowing through the cooling element (1) from a liquid phase into a gaseous phase. The capacity of an electric arc furnace can be increased by connecting a second cooling device (3) for the cooling element (1) before or during a temperature increase such that coolant (K2) fed from the second cooling device (3) additionally flows through the cooling element (1).
