Abstract

La présente invention concerne un ensemble de plaques polarisantes couplées et un afficheur à cristaux liquides à mode de commutation coplanaire comportant cet ensemble de plaques polarisantes couplées. L'invention concerne plus particulièrement, d'une part un ensemble de plaques polarisantes couplées comportant des films de correction conçus, de façon à présenter des propriétés optiques permettant de ramener à un minimum la distorsion chromatique selon les axes d'observation, et de façon à garantir un grand angle d'observation en mode de commutation coplanaire, et d'autre part un afficheur à cristaux liquides comportant l'ensemble de plaques polarisantes couplées et du cristal liquide à mode de commutation coplanaire. Étant donné le faible degré de distribution des changements d'état de polarisation sur une sphère de Poincaré, l'afficheur à cristaux liquides de la présente invention permet de ramener à un minimum la distorsion chromatique selon les axes d'observation et de garantir un grand angle d'observation. En outre, la possibilité de garantir un grand angle d'observation avec une seule feuille de film de correction pour la plaque polarisante supérieure et la plaque polarisante inférieure permettra de produire en masse, avec un rendement élevé, des afficheurs à cristaux liquides minces présentant moins de défauts imputables aux corps étrangers.
