Andererseits ist es auch bekannt, die Schienen des Gleises zu durchtrennen und dieses zur Bildung einer Gleislücke anzuheben. Anschließend wird die Räumkette in diese Gleislücke abgesenkt und mit der Maschine vorwärtsbewegt. Diese Technik setzt allerdings voraus, dass zwischen der Gleislücke und dem vorderen Schienenfahrwerk ein genügend großer Abstand zur Verfügung steht, um unzulässige Schienenspannungen zu vermeiden.
