Abstract

This invention relates to a box to preserve painting brushes. The box consists of lower part "a base" which dimensions are (190 x 360x 250 mm). There is an upper part "cover" which dimensions are (170 x 359 x 249 mm). The base contains slotted tubes and its height from the bottom is 140 mm. Inside the slotted tubes, there is a plurality of adjustable spacing of hooks comes out of them a wire with an angel of 45° where the brushes are hanged with their all shapes and sizes. There is provided a hole in the middle of the brush wooden handle immediately above the metal part. The distance between the bristles and the box base is not less than 10 mm, which preserve the bristles of the brushes of damaged. The spacing part between the box and cover contains a seal device to prevent lacking of preserve material, water, or solvent, out of the box in order that brushes do not dry and be ready for use

Description

PAINT BRUSH STORAGE DEVICE
TECHNICAL FIELD
This invention concerns devices for carriage and storage of wet paint brushes.
BACKGROUND ART
At the end of the working day a painter must ensure that the brushes will perform properly on the next working day. Ideas vary on the steps necessary to keep wet paint brushes in working order. If the brush has spread water based paint the brush may be stood upright in water so that the bristles are immersed and left at the jobsite. Some painters take their brushes home and clean them in appropriate solvent, allowing them to dry overnight. The brushes may touch other equipment, pick up dirt allow unreached paint to harden and generally undergo bristle deterioration.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
The apparatus aspect of the invention provides a device for carriage and storage of wet paint brushes comprising .
A trough closed by a lid and brush supporting means in the trough interior which in use support brushes with their bristles clear of the trough floor but in contact with liquid.
The means may be support for a series of side by side hooks which project into the interior,. The support may also span the trough interior. The support may allow the adjustable spacing of hooks so as to accommodate different widths of brushes. The support may be a slotted tube made of sheet metal or plastic. The hooks may be made of wire fixed to mounts which slide in the support. The trough and lid may trap a seal between them. One may have a perimeter channel which seats a seal which is compressed by the insertion of the perimeter of the other into the channel.
The trough may have a carry handle operable to releasably clamp the lid on the trough. The handle may have a pair of sliding lid clamps and adjusters to apply and release the clamps in order to make and break the seal, BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS FIG 1 : is a diagrammatic sectional view of the trough and lid with brushes in situ.
FIG 2: is a fragmentary perspective of the handle and lid clamps.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Moulded Trough 2 (360x360x250) has a channel 4 around its open top. Channel
4 seats a continuous rubber seal 6. Sheet metal rails 8 sit in cra41es 10 against the trough wall,
The rails are modified tubes with a central slot 12 facing into the trough interior.
The central part of the trough is spanned by a pair of rails 14 set back to back.
All the rails house plastic sliders, 16 , one for each brush 18. A wire peg 20 extends from each slider at 45 degrees and passes through a corresponding bore
22 drilled in the brush body.
The rails are cradled at the same height in thus embodiment but the height is variable to permit small brushes to reach the solvent level 24. The trough is closed by a flat lid 26(170x360x250) . An inverted U-handle 28 is connected to the lower part of the trough by pivots 30 (one shown). A pair of sleeves 32 slide up and down on the upright part of handle 28. A lug 34 extends from the outer face of sleeve 32 and a horizontal clamp 36 is fixed to the inner face of the sleeve.
An over-centre locker 38 is fixed to the part of the handle below the sleeve and thus pushes down on the lid to ensure that the lid presses against the seal. In use the trough is partly filled with water or hydrocarbon solvent and carried in the painters vehicle with the lid clamped on. When Painting is over the brushes are worked in solvent, shaken dry and hung on the pegs with the bristles partly submerged. The lid is re-clamped and the trough is ready to travel. I have found the advantages of the above embodiment to be:
(1) Non spillable.
(2) Vapour proof.
(3) Bristle condition is maintained.
(4) A missing brush is noticed.
(5) Saving Water And Time And Money
