Abstract

A rig for a core-drilling device for core drilling a concrete wall (1) includes a base structure (10) adapted to be anchored to a floor, ground, or other bed when the device is ready for operation, and a vertical column (3) having a top end (11) and a bottom end (12), which is secured to the base structure (10). To provide a rig, in which the top of the column can be securely held to a concrete wall, and does not require clamping against a ceiling, the rig further includes wall bracket (13) for supporting the column (3), said wall bracket including a top support structure (14) adapted to be anchored to the wall (1), an arm (15) having a first end (16) fixed to the top support structure (14) such that the arm (15) extends at essentially right angles thereto, a lockable clamping device (17) movable on the arm (15), and cooperating members (18, 19) on the lockable clamping device (17) and at the top end (11) of the column (3) for securing the rig (2) in an intended working position for the device.

A RIG FOR A CORE-DRILLING DEVICE
DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a rig for a core-drilling device for core drilling a concrete wall, said rig including a base structure adapted to be anchored to a floor, ground, or other bed when the device is ready for operation, a vertical column having a top end and a bottom end, the bottom end being secured to the base structure.
BACKGROUND ART Rigs for core-drilling devices for core drilling concrete floors are previously known and can have the base structure adapted to be anchored to the floor and the top of the column clamped against the ceiling as disclosed in US 2007/0217879 Al, for example. However, sometimes there is no ceiling or the ceiling is located too high up for the column top to be clamped thereagainst.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
The main object of the present invention is to provide a rig, in which the top of the column can be securely held to a concrete wall in which the core-drilling device is to make one or a series of holes, e.g. for making an opening for a door in the concrete wall. Also wall saws running on a track are well known. However to fasten the track to the wall is very time consuming, and in corners it is necessary to cut past the corner itself or to also use a core drill. Wall saws also require more highly trained operators.
In a rig of the kind referred to in the first paragraph above, this object is achieved in accordance with the present invention in that the rig comprises a wall bracket for supporting the column, said wall bracket including a top support structure adapted to be anchored to the wall, an arm having one end fixed to the top support structure such that the arm extends at right angles thereto, a lockable clamping device movable on the arm, and cooperating members on the lockable clamping device and the top end of the column for securing the rig in an intended working position for the device.
Further features that characterize various preferred embodiments of the present invention are disclosed in the appended dependent claims. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail with reference to preferred embodiments and the appended drawings.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a core-drilling device having a rig with a wall bracket in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention and mounted for coring a wall.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the top of the rig of Fig. 1 viewed from a different angle.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a wall bracket of improved rigidity.
MODE(S) FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The core-drilling device shown in Fig. 1 is intended for coring a concrete wall 1, e.g. for making an opening for a door, and it has a rig 2, with a vertical column 3 along which a carriage 4 is movable. The carriage has a horizontal column 5, along which a concrete drilling device 6 with a core drill 7 is movable, so that the core drill 7 can be moved up and down and toward and away from the wall 1. The rig 2 has a base structure 10 adapted to be anchored to a floor, ground, or other bed by a screw or the like when the device is ready for operation, and the vertical column 3 has a top end 11 and a bottom end 12. The bottom end 12 is secured to the base structure 10. For facilitating moving the core-drilling device from one place to another, the base structure 10 may be temporarily provided with a pair of wheels, not shown, and the vertical column 3 may be telescopic.
When the core-drilling device is to make one or a series of holes 8 in the concrete wall 1, the top 11 of the vertical column 3 has to be securely held to the wall. In accordance with the present invention and as best seen in Fig. 2, the rig 2 comprises a wall bracket 13 for supporting the vertical column 3. The wall bracket 13 includes a top support structure 14 adapted to be anchored to the wall 1, an arm 15 having a first end 16 fixed to the top support structure 14 such that the arm 15 extends at right angles thereto, and a lockable clamping device 17 movable on the arm 15. The rig 2 also has cooperating members 18, 19 on the lockable clamping device 17 and at the top end 11 of the column 3 for securing the rig in an intended working position for the device.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the vertical column 3 has a sleeve-shaped top closure member 20 shown in longitudinal section and having an end plate 21. The longitudinal position of the top closure member 20 along the top end of the vertical column 3 is adjustable and can be locked by a wing screw 22. The cooperating members are a vertical bore 19 in the end plate 21 of the top closure member 20 of the column 3, and a peg 18 that extends radially from the lockable clamping device 17 and fits in said bore 19. The fit preferably is a free running fit, and as shown, the bore 19 has a beveled entrance, and the peg 18 has a free end and a mating beveled surface spaced from said free end.
Further, the top support structure 14 includes two parallel side members 23, 24, each of which has a central portion 23', 24'. These central portions are interconnected by two spaced parallel interconnecting members 25, 26. The space 27 between the interconnecting members 25, 26 is adapted to permit passage therethrough of a shank of an expansion bolt 28 for adjustably anchoring the top support structure 14 to the wall 1. Although the expansion bolt 28 is shown as being located exactly halfway between the two parallel side members 23, 24, the expansion bolt might just as well be located close to any one of the two parallel side members 23, 24 to increase the adjustability. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the expansion bolt 27 has a nut 28 that presses a washer 29 against the two spaced parallel interconnecting members 25, 26 for anchoring the top support structure 14 to the wall 2.
The arm 15 is fixed to the top support structure 14 at a central portion 23' or 24' of one of the two parallel side members 23, 24, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 to the central portion 23' of side member 23. The two parallel side members 23, 24 are shown as being made from square tubes, while the two spaced parallel interconnecting members 25, 26 are made from flat rods. The top support structure 14 also is shown as having four leveling screws 31-34, one at each end of the two parallel side members 23, 24. Each screw 31-34 is mounted in a threaded insert, of which inserts 31' and 32' are shown in Fig. 2, and the screws extend through the square tubes and are of sufficient length to abut against the wall 1 and permit leveling.
The top support structure 14 with the arm 15 secured thereto and the lockable clamping device 17 are rotary relative to each other. Thereby, it is possible to rotate the wall bracket 13 around its anchoring point in order to be able to anchor it to the wall 1 in the most suitable place. In the preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the arm 15 is tubular, the lockable clamping device 17 has a longitudinally slotted tubular clamping member 35, a first and a second external lug member 36, 37 being provided on each side of the slot, the second lug member 37 being internally threaded, and a screw member 38 shown as having a handle 39 extending through the first lug member 36 and engaging the threads of the second lug member 37 for clamping the slotted clamping member 35 around the arm 15. If desired, it is of course possible to use other well known means for locking the slotted tubular clamping member 35 on the arm 15, e.g. an eccentric mechanism, not shown. The arm 15 has a second end 40 opposite to its fixed first end 16. If desired and as shown in Fig. 3, the wall bracket 13 may have an arm supporting member 41 having a first end 42 fixed to the top support structure 14 at the central portion 24' of the other one 24 of said two parallel side members, and a second end 43 fixed to said opposite second end 40 of the arm 15. Such an arm supporting member 41 increases the rigidity of the wall bracket 13 and, consequently, of the rig 2. Of course it is possible to use a second supporting member to further increase stability. In the shown preferred embodiment the arm supporting member 41 is tubular and has a horizontal straight portion, a bend, a sloping, straight middle portion, another bend, and a vertical straight portion. This design offers more space for turning the handle 39 of the clamping device than if the arm supporting member 41 were straight between its ends.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
The rig of the invention is useful in core-drilling devices for coring concrete walls to make openings for various piping and conduit systems and for installation of doors, windows, for example.

Claims

1. A rig for a core-drilling device for core drilling a concrete wall (1), said rig (2) including a base structure (10) adapted to be anchored to a floor, ground, or other bed when the device is ready for operation, a vertical column (3) having a top end (11) and a bottom end (12), the bottom end being secured to the base structure (10), characterized by a wall bracket (13) for supporting the column (3), said wall bracket including a top support structure (14) adapted to be anchored to the wall (1), an arm (15) having a first end (16) fixed to the top support structure (14) such that the arm (15) extends at essentially right angles thereto, a lockable clamping device (17) movable on the arm (15), and cooperating members (18, 19) on the lockable clamping device (17) and at the top end (11) of the column (3) for securing the rig (2) in an intended working position for the device.

A rig as claimed in claim 1, characterized in t h a t the column (3) has a top closure member (20), and said cooperating members are a vertical bore (19) in the top closure member (20) of the column (3) and a peg (18) that extends from the lockable clamping device (17) and fits in said bore (19).
3. A rig as claimed in claim 2, characterized in t h a t the fit is a free running fit, the bore (19) has a beveled entrance, and the peg (18) has a free end and a mating beveled surface spaced from said free end.
4. A rig as claimed in any one of claims 1-3, characterized in that the top support structure (14) with the arm (15) secured thereto and the lockable clamping device (17) are rotary relative to each other.

A rig as claimed claim 4, characterized in th at the arm (15) is tubular, the lockable clamping device (17) has a longitudinally slotted tubular clamping member (35), a first and a second external lug member (36, 37) being provided on each side of the slot, the second lug member (37) being internally threaded, and a screw member (38) extending through the first lug member (36) and engaging the threads of the second lug member (37) for clamping the slotted clamping member (35) around the arm (15).

A rig as claimed in any one of claims 1-5, characterized in that the top support structure (14) includes two parallel side members (23, 24), each of which has a central portion (23', 24'), these central portions being interconnected by two spaced parallel interconnecting members (25, 26), the space between the interconnecting members (25, 26) being adapted to permit passage therethrough of a threaded bolt (28) for anchoring the top support structure (14) to the wall (1).
7. A rig as claimed in claim 6, characterized in th a t the arm (15) is fixed to the top support structure (14) at a center portion (23', 24') of one of the two parallel side members (23, 24).

A rig as claimed in claim 7, characterized in th at the arm (15) has a second end (40) opposite to the fixed first end (16), and at least one arm supporting member (41) has a first end (42) fixed to the top support structure (14) at the central portion (24') of the other one (24) of said two parallel side members, and a second end (43) fixed to the second end (40) of the arm (15).
9. A rig as claimed in any one of claims 1-8, characterized in that the top support structure (14) has four leveling screws (31-34), one at each end of the two parallel side members (23, 24).
