Abstract

The invention relates to apparatus and a method for use in the removal of (1) items from a package so as to allow the items (6), which in one embodiment are empty containers, to be moved onwardly to a location at which the containers (6) are filled. The items are provided as a group enclosed within sheet material (3) to form a package. The apparatus includes a blade (12) provided with a series of teeth formed therein and the blade is moved onto the sheet material (3) at one side of the package (1) such that the teeth of the blade puncture the same and then as the blade (12) is moved further the cut line is formed. The blade can be moved through the package (1) to perform the cutting action on the opposing wall of the package. Sheet material removal means is also provided.
