Abstract

A system for providing a service oriented computing over the cloud to users in different domains of activities comprising an user end computing access device to provide for two distinct areas of user computing and two distinct control areas which are under different one's control.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 09 December 2010 (09.12.10)
1. A system for providing a managed utility computing service over the cloud (Internet) to users in different domains of activities comprising:
an user end computing access device customized to provide for two distinct areas of user computing;
an operative network component; and
an operative server component,
wherein the two distinct areas of user computing comprising:
a first secured area which has utility computing environment and provides for fixed computing environment; and
a second unsecured area the access to which is controlled by the utility computing environment in the secured area,
wherein using the utility computing environment in the fixed computing environment the user can access data and applications,
wherein in the unsecured area the user can flexibly install/add applications, and
wherein the said computing access device is adapted to keep track of the network characteristics it has to its servers and depending on the type of network available the user is informed of the applications and content that they can access from the fixed computing environment.
2. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the network component comprising networks having different characteristics and depending on these characteristics the set of applications, content, features available to the user and fixed computing environment are varied.
3. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the operative server component comprising:
Device authenticator;
Profile manager;
Role manager;
Profile to desktop translator; and
Utility environment manager,
27 wherein the device authenticator ensures that the entire service is secured from intrusions and the secured control area is accessed only by authorized devices,
wherein the profile manager manages and controls the profiles of the users of the utility computing system,
wherein the role manger manages the different roles that the user can take and the user can modify the template created based on the role to make it specific for them,
wherein the profile to desktop translator the profile, retrieves the characteristics of each component from a central repository and creates the desktop as a webpage, and
wherein the utility environment manager supports the setup, maintenance, change management and control of the entire environment.
4. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the boot up process is controlled by the secured area and based on the number of control parameters the second unsecured area is allowed or disallowed by said secure area, the said control parameters being user paying the subscription, user's role, user's credentials and state of the unsecure area.
5. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the network characteristics that are tracked are the bandwidth, latency and packet loss in the network.
6. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said server component comprises number of servers preferably having element adapted to deploy, authenticate, customize, control manage and generate bills based on different aspects of the user's needs under the utility computing environment.
7. The system as" claimed In anyone of claims 1 to 6, wherein the user's environment is customizable at any time by the user.
8. The system as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 7, wherein using the profile manager the computing access device can be locked down to a limited set of users.
9. A method of providing a managed utility computing service over the cloud (Internet) to users of different domains of activities using the system as claimed in anyone of claims 1 to 8 comprising: accessing the customer's computing requirements through computing access device; providing the user with one or more distinct areas of computing;
keeping track of the network characteristics the computing access device has to its servers;
delivering applications and content required by the user as service by the secured area;
informing about the applications and content that the user can access depending on the type of network available;
authenticating the computing access devices and providing access only to authorized devices; receiving information on the users of the device and of the servers;
managing and controlling the profiles of the users; and
creating the desktop as a web page based on the profile and characteristics of the user, wherein the access to all browser based application is through any kind of network ,
wherein the network characteristics that are tracked are the bandwidth, latency and packet loss in the network,
wherein the user modifies the template created based on the role to make it specific for them, wherein the user gets fixed computing environment and flexibility to add applications, wherein the fixed and flexible environments are achieved through the secured and un secured area, and
wherein the user is provided with flexibility of accessing applications and services across operating systems at any time without the hassles of installation, maintenance and upgrade.
10. The method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the method provides for fixed but managed and flexible but unmanaged computing environment.
