Definitions

  • the present invention regards goggles with interchangeable lens, particularly adapted for use in undertaking sporting activities, such as skiing, snowboarding and the like.
  • the photochromatic lenses contain photosensitive pigments, having the property of reversibly modifying their own chromatic range as a function of the intensity of the environmental light hitting thereon. In other words, with the increase of the environmental light intensity, the photochromatic lenses absorb a greater quantity of light radiation, becoming darker, while when the light intensity decreases, they return to the clear state.
  • photochromatic lenses have had a hard time being applied in sporting settings and particularly in skiing.
  • visibility can vary in a sudden manner, passing from extremely sunny conditions, which require the use of dark lenses adapted to protect a user's eyes from the sun rays and to allow a clear vision of the pistes, to cloudy conditions, that require the use of clearer lenses, which accentuate the contrasts on the white background.
  • Photochromatic lenses are incapable of quickly adapting themselves to these environmental condition changes, and thus piste visibility changes, with obvious problems for the skier.
  • the pigments present on the lenses are mainly activated by light with wavelength in the range of the blue band (430-490 nm) , which is not filtered by clouds at high elevation, so that the photochromatic lenses remain dark even in the presence of a cloudy sky and thus reduced visibility conditions, with a clearly negative impact on the user's vision.

Moreover, these goggles have the drawback that the lenses fog up.
