Abstract
This invention relates to a precision device for the placement of dental implants which consists of a surgical precision guide for the placement of dental implants, characterized in that it comprises a dental implant carrier (1) with a screw pitch exactly identical to that of the dental implant (2) to be placed and a guide/matrix (3), also threaded with a screw pitch identical to that of the dental implant; in this surgical precision guide, only the thread (4) of the dental implant carrier (2) contacts with the thread of the guide (3) for the carrier in order to create a minimum contact area or surface between the two pieces, so that the precision of this guidance system is sufficient to allow the placement of the final restoration, in ceramic or metal ceramic material, immediately after surgery and meeting the levels of adjustment known in the conventional techniques.
Description
DESCRIPTION
"PRECISION DEVICE FOR DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT"
-Field, of the invention
Nowadays, all medical procedures must be predictable and fast at the same time. The conventional procedure in oral rehabilitation with dental implants consists of the surgical placement of the dental implant, followed by a period of osteointegration of a few weeks, and only afterwards is the final ceramic or metal ceramic restoration manufactured. Alternatively, the restoration can be placed immediately after surgery, but in this case the procedure is referred to as "immediate rehabilitation" and the restoration itself is provisional and made of acrylic resin.
The present device allows surgical guidance during the placement of the dental implant, with such precision that the final restoration of ceramic or metal ceramic material can be placed immediately after surgery, i.e. the clinician places the dental implant and the final restoration, which has been previously manufactured, immediately after surgery and in the same clinical session. Therefore, the patient receives in a single session the implant and the final restoration, thus saving several weeks.
Prior art
Nowadays, all medical procedures must be predictable and fast at the same time. The conventional procedure in oral -rehabilitation with dental implants consists of the surgical placement of the dental implant, followed by a period of osteointegration of a few weeks, and only afterwards is the final ceramic or metal ceramic restoration manufactured. In order to accomplish all this, at least three clinical sessions are necessary: one for the surgery and two others for the rehabilitation itself. Alternatively, the restoration can be placed immediately after surgery, but in this case the procedure is referred to as "immediate rehabilitation" . This immediate rehabilitation is provisional, i.e. the restoration remains in the oral cavity for a pre-established period of a few weeks or months, and it is made of acrylic. After this period of time, a final or permanent restoration is required, for which purpose another two or three sessions will be necessary.
Currently, in dental implant surgery the procedure is as follows: after anaesthesia, the oral mucosa and the bone are drilled using progressively wider drills, in order to prepare the bed of the implant; in general two or three drills are used and only then is the dental implant placed.
Summary of the invention
This invention consists of two pieces that function together, guiding the dental implant surgery with such precision that the final restoration can be placed in the same clinical session, immediately after the placement of the dental implants. These pieces are: - a dental implant carrier, built with a screw pitch exactly identical to that of the dental implant, but having a wider diameter; and - a guide for the dental implant carrier, also threaded in the same way, which will help to guide the carrier during the surgical procedure.
This dental implant carrier guide is stabilized in the mouth with the help of the neighbouring teeth and using high precision acrylic resin. This set (acrylic and dental implant carrier guide) can also have its stability increased by the use of bone pins .
The drills used to prepare the bed of the implant are used in accordance with the axis and position of the dental implant carrier guide, which is stabilized in the mouth by using small metal sleeves which guide the functioning of these drills by fitting into the dental implant carrier guide. These sleeves have a handle which facilitates their use, and their inner and outer surfaces are unthreaded.
After preparation of the implant bed, the implant can be placed as follows: the dental implant carrier and the
implant to be placed are connected. This set is then connected to the motor/hand piece that will rotate it in order to place the dental implant . The positioning of this set inside the dental implant carrier guide will be made through the upper occlusal access or laterally, through the lateral access. After the correct positioning of this set inside the dental implant carrier guide, the dental implant itself can be placed into the bone; it is essential that the guidance of the dental implant carrier by the dental implant carrier guide starts before the dental implant engages the bone. In this way, maximum precision is guaranteed.
The dental implant is thus guided into its final position by permanent contact between the dental implant carrier guide and the dental implant carrier, until the metal stop on the carrier touches the guide and thus halts the descent of the implant .
After the correct placement of the implant, the whole set (dental implant carrier, dental implant carrier guide and high precision acrylic) is removed from the mouth and the dental implant remains in its predetermined position.
Brief description of the drawings
The following description is based on the attached drawings, which are intended to represent, without limitation:
Fig. 1 - An exploded view of the precision device for dental implant placement which is the subject of the invention;
Fig. 2 - The same device for implant placement, but in a working position, with its constituent parts coupled together;
Fig. 3 - The same device for implant placement in an intermediate position;
Fig. 4 - A section of the device;
Fig. 5 - A schematic representation of the implant placement procedure.
Detailed description of the invention
As can be seen in the attached figures, the precision device for the placement of dental implants consists of a surgical precision guide for the positioning of the implants, comprising a dental implant carrier (1) with a screw pitch exactly identical to the screw pitch of the dental implant (2) to be placed and a guide/matrix (3) , also threaded with a screw pitch identical to that of the implant (2) , in such a way that the contact surface or area between the two pieces is as small as possible, therefore allowing enough precision so that this guidance system
permits the placement of a final restoration, of ceramic or metal ceramic material, immediately after surgery and meeting the adjustment and accuracy levels known in the conventional techniques.
During the surgical procedure for the placement of the dental implant (2) , the dental implant carrier (1) connects to the dental implant (2) forming a single piece, as represented by (3) in the attached figures. This connection between the carrier and the implant can be obtained in several ways, for example with a screw through a nut on the implant and a tap on the carrier, the nut/tap parts having any appropriate configuration (square, hexagonal, etc.) This set, consisting of the implant carrier (1) and the dental implant (2) , is placed in position (Fig. 3) inside the implant carrier guide (3) (Fig. 2) through its occlusal or lateral access. For this purpose, the guide (3) is provided with a side window or opening (6) which allows the carrier/implant set to be placed laterally. After being in the correct position, the implant carrier (1) is driven through the guide (3) during the descent using a rotational movement. This movement is maintained until the metal stop (7) of the implant carrier (1) touches the guide (3) .
As can be seen in figure 5, the dental implant carrier guide (3) is stabilized in the mouth using the neighbouring teeth and high precision acrylάc resin; however, this whole
set can also be fixed with the help of bone pins, thus increasing its stability.
