Abstract

This invention provides a process for producing a fluoroalkyl iodide which can realize high selectivity for a fluoroalkyl iodide (telomer) having a desired degree of polymerization and, at the same time, can realize high productivity. In adding a compound represented by formula (2) to a compound represented by formula (1) in the presence of a radical initiator to give a compound represented by formula (3), a compound represented by formula (4) is used as a radical initiator. RfI (1), CF2 = CF2 (2), RfCF2CF2I (3), and {F(CF2)xCOO}2 (4) wherein Rf represents a fluoroalkyl group having 12 to 16 carbon atoms (even number); and x represents an even number of 2 to 14.
