Abstract

This invention provides a high-performance and high-capacitance rechargeable battery which does not contain lead in its electrode material, does not use sulfuric acid in its electrolysis solution, and does not contain any pollutant. Silver oxide or nickel oxyhydroxide and/or manganese dioxide in combination with calcium and carbon are provided in an anode. Zinc and carbon are provided in a cathode. An aqueous alkali solution or an ionic liquid is used as an electrolysis solution. Thus, a battery is constructed. The battery is a lead-free battery which particularly has a high energy density and a high capacitance. The cathode is formed of the following material. Zinc and carbon are mixed with a binder to prepare a paste for zinc only and a paste for carbon only which are then separately coated on the surface of the cathode to form a zinc-carbon separated structure. A rechargeable battery with an anode material surface and a cathode zinc surface and a battery including a function in which calcium ions derived from the anode material surface and a cathode carbon surface undergo carbon adsorption and desorption upon charging/discharging are connected in parallel to constitute a composite battery, whereby a rechargeable battery with a high capacitance and a high energy density can be provided.
