Abstract

This invention provides a rubber composition for a tire, which can improve tire dry performance, wet performance and on-ice performance, and a pneumatic tire having improved run flat durability and comfortability. The rubber composition comprises a rubber component composed mainly of an aromatic vinyl compound-conjugated diene compound copolymer, a conjugated diene compound polymer, or a naturally occurring rubber, and a polyrotaxane containing a cyclic molecule, a linear molecule including the cyclic molecule in a skewering form or a molecule having one branching point, and a blocking group located at the end of the linear molecule or the molecule having one branching point for preventing the elimination of the cyclic molecule, or a crosslinked polyrotaxane formed of the polyrotaxane crosslinked through the cyclic molecule. In the pneumatic tire, the rubber composition is applied to a tread, or a side reinforcing layer and/or a bead filler.
