Abstract
Provided is an optical recording medium, which can smoothly perform the increase in a recording capacity and the interchangeability at a reproduction time. The optical recording medium comprises a BD layer (12) formed in a format according to the BD standards, an HD layer (14) formed in a format according to the HD standards, and an optically transparent intermediate substrate (13) arranged between the BD layer (12) and the HD layer (14). The BCA and system lead-in of the BD layer (12) have information recorded therein on the presence of another HD layer (14) and on which of the BD layer (12) or the HD layer (14) is to be preferentially recorded. On the other hand, the HD layer (14) has information recorded therein on the presence of another BD layer (12) and on which of the BD layer (12) or the HD layer (14) is to be preferentially recorded.
