Abstract

A self-luminous light emitting device (10) having uniform luminance distribution on a light exit surface of a diffuse transmission plate and enabling reduced power consumption while maintaining wide viewing angle. The light-emitting device (10) comprises a surface light source (12) having a light-emitting surface (20a), a reflector (16), and a diffuse transmission plate (14). The reflector (16) has a light source attachment opening (24), a light exit opening (26) to which the diffuse transmission plate (14) is attached, and a reflection plane (28) as a paraboloid of revolution defined by a parabola (P) with an optical axis L of light emitted from the surface light source (12) as the axis of revolution.
