Abstract

 M1、M2、M3、M4、ハロゲン元素およびOからなる蛍光体(ここで、M1はアルカリ土類金属元素を表わし、M2は3価の金属元素を表わし、M3は付活元素を表わし、M4は4価の金属元素を表わす。)であって、M1:(M2+M3):M4:ハロゲン元素のモル比が、1:4:3:a(ここで、aは0.01以上3以下の範囲の値である。)である高い発光輝度を有する蛍光体を提供する。かかる蛍光体はM1、M2、M3、M4およびハロゲン元素を含有する金属化合物混合物(ここで、M1、M2、M3、M4は前記と同じ意味を有する。)であって、M1のハロゲン化物、M2のハロゲン化物およびM3のハロゲン化物からなる群から選ばれる1種以上のハロゲン化物を含有する金属化合物混合物を焼成して得ることができる。
