  • Packaging material 10 may be formed by any suitable technique, such as by extrusion or lamination, although lamination is the preferred process.
  • Conventional lamination techniques include applying the starch derivative, cellulose derivative, latex derivative or latex 12 as a film to the natural- fibre cloth base 12 whilst using heat and/or pressure.
  • An optional adhesive may be used during the lamination process, and this will preferably be compostable.
  • the starch or cellulose derivative is a lactic acid derivative, such as polylactic acid, or a biopolymer derived from corn, maize, potato or sugarbeet.
  • Suitable biopolymers include those sold under the trade marks Mater-Bi® (Novamont), Biograde® (FKuR Kunststoff GmbH), BioGrade (GreenerWorks Ltd), BioGrade (Hong Kong Pty Ltd), Biograde (Nanjing Pty Ltd) and BioPlastic.

  • the printed film and packaging material form a laminate.
  • the laminated packaging material produced in accordance with the present invention provides a versatile material which has excellent barrier properties, and which can be used in a wide variety of applications.
  • these materials are considered to be excellent alternatives to oil-based packaging materials commonly used for food containment and preservation. Due to their excellent barrier properties, these laminate materials are suitable for use in containing liquids, and particularly for forming bags including reusable disposable carrier bags.
  • Packaging materials comprising jute, cotton and canvas and having at least one layer formed thereon from the following constituents have been made and tested, and found to be effective.
  • Natural rubber 50%; Fillers 30%; Aromatic oil 3%; Antioxidants 3%; Mineral Oil 5%; Zinc oxide 5%; Satiric acid 2%; Accelerators 2%.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne des matériaux d'emballage, notamment des matériaux d'emballage biodégradables compostables. L'invention décrit un matériel d'emballage ; un emballage sous la forme d'un récipient pouvant être fermé, scellé ou ouvert, ou un sac comprenant le matériel d'emballage ; et un procédé de fabrication d'un matériel d'emballage, le matériel d'emballage comprenant un stratifié compostable comportant une couche comprenant un tissu en fibres naturelles, et au moins une couche comprenant un dérivé d'amidon, un dérivé de cellulose, un dérivé de latex ou du latex.
