Abstract

Disclosed is a coating composition which exhibits good mechanical stability and storage stability and enables to obtain a coating film having excellent adhesion to an article to be coated, even when the amount of a fluorine-containing surfactant contained therein is reduced. Specifically disclosed is a coating composition which is an aqueous dispersion containing at least one fluorine-containing polymer (a) selected from the group consisting of a polytetrafluoroethylene, a tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer and a tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoro(alkylvinyl ether) copolymer, a heat-resistant resin (b), a nonionic surfactant (c) having an HLB of not more than 11, and a fluorine-containing surfactant (d) in an aqueous medium. This coating composition is characterized in that the solid content mass ratio between the fluorine-containing polymer (a) and the heat-resistant resin (b), namely fluorine-containing polymer (a):heat-resistant resin (b), is from 85:15 to 50:50; the nonionic surfactant (c) is contained in an amount of 0.1-10% by mass relative to the total solid content of the fluorine-containing polymer (a) and the heat-resistant resin (b); and the fluorine-containing surfactant (d) is contained in an amount of less than 500 ppm relative to the mass of the solid content of the fluorine-containing polymer (a).
