Abstract

An image display device (10) receives an input image signal and performs gradation conversion before displaying the image. The image display device (10) includes: a display mode switching unit (16) which switches a display mode by an input from user I/F (12) or an illuminance sensor (14); a local histogram smoothing unit (18) which performs a local gradation correction on the input image signal; a second tone curve conversion unit (22) which performs a gradation conversion process on an image which has been subjected to a local gradation correction by the local histogram smoothing unit (18) by using the tone curve conversion based on the display mode switched by the display mode switching unit (16); and an image display unit (26) which displays an image after the gradation conversion process by the second tone curve conversion unit (22).
