Abstract

Disclosed is a method for removing N2O contained in an exhaust gas from a sewage sludge incinerator industrially efficiently while avoiding the decrease in the activity of a catalyst caused by water vapor. According to the method, an exhaust gas having a high temperature ranging from 800 to 850˚C discharged from a sewage sludge incinerator (1) is treated in an exhaust gas treatment system equipped with a smoke exhaust treatment column (6), and is cooled to 20 to 60˚C. This procedure can decrease the water vapor content in the exhaust gas to 2 to 20 vol%. The exhaust gas is heated again to 300 to 550˚C by passing the exhaust gas through a heating unit (9). The exhaust gas is contacted with an N2O-removing catalyst (8) in the presence of a reducing agent, thereby reductively removing N2O contained in the exhaust gas. The method enables to remove 90% or more of N2O.
