Abstract

 円柱状または円筒状のガラス体を長手方向に移動する加熱源により延伸し、各位置において所望の外径を有するガラス延伸体を製造する方法。(1)ガラス体を加熱して軟化させ、軟化した部分の外径を測定し、測定値が目標外径より大きい第1制御径となるようにガラス体を延伸して、中間延伸体の外径が各位置において  (目標外径-10μm)<(中間延伸体の外径)<(目標外径+500μm) なる関係を満たす中間延伸体を得る第1延伸工程と、(2)中間延伸体を加熱して軟化させ、軟化した部分の外径を測定し、測定値が目標外径より大きい第2制御径となるように中間延伸体を延伸して、目標外径を有するガラス延伸体を得る第2延伸工程とを備える。
