Abstract

 液晶表示装置100は、液晶層1と、液晶層1を間に保持する前面基板3および背面基板2と、液晶層1を挟んで配置され、液晶層1に電圧を印加する一対の電極4、8と、前面基板3の前面側および背面基板2の背面側にそれぞれ配置された円偏光板15、16と、液晶層1と前面基板3および背面基板2との間にそれぞれ形成された第1および第2配向膜13、12とを備え、液晶層1は、画素のそれぞれに、連続した壁10と、壁10によって分離された複数の小部屋14と、それぞれが、複数の小部屋14の何れか1つに形成された複数の液晶領域11とを有する。複数の液晶領域11は、液晶層1に平行な面内にディレクタ20を有する第1および第2の液晶領域を有しており、第1および第2の液晶領域のディレクタ20は互いに異なる方向を向いている。
