Abstract

An electrical safety device for roadside electrical equipment, comprises a mains connection unit for connecting the equipment to a mains cable, and comprising a mains input and a supply output for supplying electrical power to the equipment. A circuit breaker is for controlling the connection between the mains input and the supply output, and a releasable connector is in the path between the mains input and the equipment, the releasable connector comprising power supply pins and a pair of monitoring pins. The releasable connector is designed to release in the event of damage to the electrical equipment. The circuit breaker is for monitoring electrical connection between the pair of monitoring pins. This arrangement uses the disconnection of the releasable connector to trigger a circuit breaker, by providing a monitoring circuit which is connected through the releasable connector. This provides a more safe disconnection as the broken connector is then isolated from the mains.
