Abstract

Provided is a cultivating method using an illuminating apparatus which easily emits sufficiently strong lights with different wavelengths by using LEDs consuming more-saved power and is suitable for even a special application to, e.g., commercial cultivation of plants. The illuminating apparatus has a light-emitting module (9) for illuminating a plant (3) being cultivated with light. The light-emitting module (9) is installed through a circuit board (16) attached to the bottom (15a) of an aluminum housing (15). The light-emitting module (9) is composed of three surface-directed LED light-emitting elements (11a, 11b, 11c) emitting a red light in a first wavelength region and an LED light-emitting element (11d) emitting a blue light in a second wavelength region. The surface-directed LED light-emitting elements (11a, 11b, 11c, 11d) are arranged adjacently to one another and controlled independently. The plant is illuminated with the lights serving as supplementary light at predetermined timings.
