Definitions
- the present invention relates to a self-regulating cable with CTP behavior and modular electrical power, its specific connector, a device comprising said cable and said connector and the use of this device to generate a modular electrical power from a single cable .
- CTP Cold Temperature Coefficient
- cables for which an increase in their electrical resistance can be observed. with the temperature until they deliver a current of very low intensity, or even zero.
- the electric current will heat the material joule effect, the amount of thermal energy released by joule effect will induce a mobility of macromolecular chains, a distance of the conductive particles any of others and a dilation of the material.
- This increase in the internal temperature of the cable will therefore increase the resistance of the cable, which will have the purpose of reducing the electrical power of the cable. Consequently, this gradual decrease in electrical power will continue until reaching a zero power and therefore a limit temperature of self heating of the material.
- the cable can thus be self-regulating in electrical resistance, therefore in electrical power and consequently in temperature.
- cables for example the VLBTV Company RAYCHEM, having a number of electrical conductors greater than two, but the function of these conductors is the increase in the total section of the conductors for heating or temperature maintenance applications over long distances and this under 480 and 600V.
- the Applicant Company after much research, had the great merit of finding a self-regulating cable with CTP (Positive Temperature Coefficient) behavior and with a modular electric power that perfectly meets these criteria.
- the cable according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises at least three electrical conductors separated by a polymer alloy said to CTP behavior, the electrical conductors being all intended to be connected in pairs.
- connected two by two is meant either a conductor connected to another conductor or at least two conductors short-circuited between them, the resultant being connected to another conductor.
- the cable according to the invention contains at least three electrical conductors embedded in a polymer-based semiconductor alloy charged with electrically conductive particles.
- This polymer-based alloy exhibits a CTP behavior, that is to say, an increase in its electrical resistance with the temperature until it delivers a current of very low intensity or even zero.
- This alloy of polymers may be as described in Patent EP0965138 or in Application FR0705142. More particularly, it comprises a polar polyolefin, a conductive filler and a matrix polymer.
- the polar polyolefin optionally totally or partially charged with carbon black, is selected from the group consisting of ethylene / vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene / C 1 -C 6 alkyl acrylate copolymers, or mixtures thereof.
- the matrix polymer it can be chosen from poly (C 1 -C 4) alkylene terephthalates, polyamides, polypropylenes, polycarbonates, polyester and polyether copolymers, polymethylmethacrylates or mixtures thereof.
- the nature of the polymer is defined by the conditions of use of the alloy, its ability to have a CTP behavior in the desired temperature range and as a function of the mechanical characteristics that may give it a particular geometry and specific deformations of the type. flexible.
- the adjustable electric power self-regulating cable according to the invention is characterized in that the amount of polymer alloy separating the two connected conductors determines the resistance of the cable.
- the present invention thus makes it possible, by selecting the conductors connected in pairs to obtain different values of electrical resistance (ohmic resistance) and consequently electrical power of the cable. Indeed, since the resistance is a function of the amount of polymer material separating two connected conductors, to modulate this resistance, it is sufficient to connect conductors more or less distant from each other.
- the same cable can thus provide a combination of electrical resistances, therefore, of different electrical powers for the same temperature and each power will have its own evolution according to the temperature.
- the cable according to the invention can be manufactured by the method described in Patent EP0965138 or in that of Application FR 0705142.
- said method is characterized in that it comprises the following steps in which:
- a compatible polymer alloy comprising a polar polyolefin, a matrix polymer, a conductive filler such as carbon black and optionally non-conductive fillers are mixed,
- the mixture thus obtained is extruded in order to obtain aggregates, the extrudates are extruded around electrically conductive strands (i.e. the conductors),
- the tape thus formed is then covered with an electrically insulating material
- the self-regulating cable with adjustable electric power is characterized in that said electrical conductors are all identical.
- the self-regulating cable electrical power adjustable according to the invention is characterized in that at least one of said electrical conductors is of different section.
- the modulation can also be done by connecting to a different section conductor.
- the electrical conductors are made from a material selected from the group comprising in particular copper, nickel-plated copper, tinned copper, aluminum and mixtures thereof. In general, all drivers are made of identical material. However, according to a preferred embodiment, in order to increase the possible applications of the cable according to the invention, this self-regulating cable with adjustable electric power is characterized in that at least one of said electrical conductors is made from different materials.
- the self-regulating cable with modular electric power according to the invention is characterized in that the distance between two successive electrical conductors is identical.
- the self-regulating cable with adjustable electric power according to the invention is characterized in that the distance between two successive electrical conductors is different.
- the cable according to the invention has the following advantages: it considerably reduces the number of cable references, by the use of a single cable making it possible to generate several electric powers,
- the present invention also relates to a connector for a self-regulating cable with CTP behavior and adjustable electrical power according to the invention, characterized in that it comprises means for connecting it to the power supply and means for connecting electrical conductors two by two.
- the connector according to the invention is characterized in that the connection means is rotary knob, the rotation thereof to preselect the contacting of the conductors of the cable with the power supply.
- the connector according to the invention is characterized in that the connection means is in translation, the translation of the electrical contacts for preselecting the contacting of the conductors of the cable with the power supply.
- the connector according to the invention is characterized in that the connection means is a plug, the plug making it possible to pre-select the contacting of the conductors of the cable with the power supply by connecting said conductors in the box to select the value of resistance.
- connection means are conceivable such as pushbuttons, electronic switches and relays.
- the present invention also relates to a device for generating a modular electrical power, characterized in that it comprises at least one cable according to the invention and at least one connector according to the invention.
- the present invention further relates to the use of the device according to the invention to generate a modular electrical power using a single cable comprising at least three electrical conductors inserted into an alloy known as CTP behavior, this alloy being it. the same compound of polymers charged with electric conductive particles.
- the user can choose the power he wants. To do this, he connects together the two drivers that will allow him to obtain said power. If, while in use or for another application, he wishes to obtain another power, he will then connect together other drivers. Thus, he no longer needs to change the cable.
