Abstract

A tannin adhesive that realizes alignment in one direction, not only within a horizontal plane of right-and-left direction but also in a vertical direction, of an object coated with an adhesive, for example, wood chip or other woody molding material, etc. by an aligning apparatus, leading to good appearance, and that suppresses any deterioration of working environment by dust; a woody composite material excelling in practical strength, provided utilizing the tannin adhesive; and a process for producing the woody composite material. The tannin adhesive is comprised of a mixture of tannin, or modified tannin, or an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion thereof, a tertiary amine and a slippability enhancing surface modifier, or a mixture of tannin, or modified tannin, or an aqueous solution or aqueous dispersion thereof, and a tertiary amine, and exhibits a pH value of higher than 10 to 13. The woody composite material is one composed of multiple woody molding materials bonded to each other by means of the above tannin adhesive. The woody composite material can be obtained by mixing woody molding materials with the above tannin adhesive, forming a woody mat and carrying out heating and pressurization of the woody mat by penetrating high-temperature steam into the woody mat to thereby harden the tannin adhesive.
