Abstract

A receiving apparatus (100) decodes, in accordance with a predetermined decoding scheme, video and audio signals transmitted in a plurality of layers, thereby outputting the video and audio signals. In this apparatus, a receiving part (101) receives the video and audio signals, which include video and audio signals of high resolution transmitted in layers for which a transmission path provides large influences on the reception state, while also including video and audio signals of low resolution transmitted in layers for which the transmission path provides small influences on the reception state. A recording part (102) records the received video and audio signals of low resolution into a memory. A detecting part (103) detects the reception state of the received video and audio signals. A switching control part (104) switches, in accordance with the detected reception state, the video and audio signals to be outputted by an output part (105) from the video and audio signals of high resolution to the recorded video and audio signals of low resolution.
