Abstract
According to the present invention, the device is made up of a certain number of disks, whose surface contains a plurality of holes; the said disks are assembled at 90° and in a decentralized manner, with a peg that is preferably cylindrical in shape and of the appropriate length.
Description
Device for inducing a prompt recovery from aerophagia and hiccoughs
Field of the invention
The present invention refers to a medical device whose function is that of preventing the formation of air inside the human digestive system and particularly allowing a prompt recovery from hiccoughs .
According to the present invention, the device is made up of a certain amount of disks having a plurality of holes on the surface. These disks are assembled at
90° and in a decentralized manner, with a peg that is preferably cylindrical and of a suitable length.
Background of the invention
In medical handbooks, hiccoughs are defined as an "involuntary spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm, caused by an incipient inspiration which is controlled by the closing of the glottis which causes its characteristic noise" .
Currently there is no medical treatment for this nuisance, which generally one tries to alleviate with empirical methods such as : compression of the ocular bulbs; compression of the two nervi phrenici situated beh Sind the sternoclavicular articulations; - rhythmic traction of the tongue.
As an alternative, sometimes pharmaceutical treatment is administered such as Plasil, Largactil or solutions with an analgesic action localized to the gastric mucosa.
There are many other remedies/ but these hardly ever lead to a prompt recovery from hiccoughs .
Summary of the invention
The device of the present invention is based on the fact that a liquid contained in a container provided with a choking corresponding to the outlet hole (a bottle, for example) , is poured and a whirl and some turbulences form and give way to invisible air sacks: if the container's outlet consists of a choking provided with more than one hole, pouring the contents will cause many whirls to form and the ensuing development of air sacks will be proportional to the number of holes present in the device .
When a subject afflicted by hiccoughs takes a few sips of a liquid (for example water) from a container where the device is placed, this pours through the device and forms small whirls and turbulences which cause the hiccoughs to disappear.
As has already been mentioned, the device is made up of a certain number of disks (from one to three) whose surface is provided with a plurality of holes. The said disks are parallel at 90°, do not coincide with each other and are fixed to a peg that is preferably cylindrical in shape.
Description of the drawings
The device will now be described with reference to the attached drawings where:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the inferior disk Fig. 2 is a plan view of the superior disk Fig. 3 is a side elevation view of the device with two disks
Fig. 4 is an axonometric view of the partially sectioned device with two disks
Fig. 5 is an axonometric view of the device with two disks
Fig. 6 shows the device with only one disk, applied to a feeding-bottle Fig. 7 shows the device with only one disk, applied inside a glass.
Description of preferred embodiment
With reference to the said drawings and as has already been briefly described, the device object of the present invention consists of one or more disks (1) provided with a plurality of holes on the surface (2, 2a) .
The disks (1) are fixed, in any one point of their surface other than the centre, to a peg (3) with a preferably circular section and a distance from one another that is variable depending on the use which is to be made.
The preferred embodiment would have a disk with a 35 mm diameter and a 1 mm thickness; the surface of the disks will have, as already mentioned, a plurality of holes (2) that, within the preferred embodiment, would amount to fifteen and would have a diameter of approx. 5 mm.
From the experiments conducted, it has been observed that the best results were achieved when the holes (2, 2a) were aligned in the following manner: ten holes (2) along the circumference of the disk (1) and five holes (2a) inside the circumference formed by the first ten holes (2) . One of the said holes (2a) will be used for passing and fixing the vertical element (3) .
As has already been mentioned, the device object of the present invention may be placed, in the case of children's use, inside a feeding-bottle as demonstrated in figure (6) with the disk/disks (1) placed on the mouth
of the feeding-bottle and the cylindrical peg (3) inside the same .
In the case of adult use, which is particularly indicated, the device (as clearly described in fig. 7) is placed inside a drinking glass. In this case the disk/disks (1) are in contact with the bottom of the glass and the peg (3) is placed on the rim and should be held between one's fingers.
In both applications, as water passes through the holes (2, 2a) it causes the formation of turbulent motions and air-sacks that give way to the termination of the hiccoughing after only a few sips .
As has already been mentioned, the diameter and the number of disks (1) , the number and the dimensions of the holes (2, 2a) in addition to the length and the diameter of the peg (3) may vary according to the size of the container that is being used.
The device may be produced in any material deemed fit, but the preferred material for this embodiment is stainless steel.
