Abstract

Provided are a light source device capable of preventing optical efficiency from being degraded and improving the luminance of an illumination area, and a projector. The light source device is characterized by having: first and second light source means (11, 12) emitting illumination light; a light selection means (21) which selects the illumination light emitted from the first or second light source means (11, 12) and forms at least a first optical path (L1) or a second optical path (L2) guiding the selected illumination light; and a control means (31) which controls light emitting of each of the first and second light source means (11, 12). The light source device is also characterized in that the control means (31) turns off the first and second light source means (11, 12) in a transition period in which the first optical path (L1) and the second optical path (L2) are switched, turns on the first light source means (11) within a period in which the first optical path (L1) is formed, and turns on the second light source means (12) within a period in which the second optical path (L2) is formed.
