Abstract

　画像符号化装置は複数の入力画像の中の互いに参照されない複数の符号化対象画像間で共通な位置にある複数の符号化対象領域の複数の予測残差画像を複数の入力画像の中で既に符号化がなされた参照画像の局部復号画像を参照して生成する差分信号作成器（１０１）と、複数の予測残差画像の各々に対して空間方向の２次元直交変換を行う２次元モード又は複数の予測残差画像からなる３次元時空間予測残差画像に対して時空間方向の３次元直交変換を行う３次元モードで直交変換を行うことにより直交変換係数を生成する直交変換器（１０４）と、直交変換係数を量子化して量子化直交変換係数を生成する量子化器（１０６）と、量子化直交変換係数を可変長符号化して符号化変換係数を生成する可変長符号化器（１０８）と、直交変換が２次元モードであるか３次元モードであるかを示す直交変換モード情報と符号化変換係数とを多重化した符号化データを出力する多重化器とを備える。
