Abstract

Disclosed is a steam generator for a household appliance, comprising an evaporation chamber (2), to which a supply pipe (4) for water and a discharge pipe (8) for steam are fluidically connected, and an evaporation surface (13) that can be heated using a heat accumulator (12; 12.1). The steam generator further comprises an electric controller (16) which controls or regulates, with the help of a valve located in the supply pipe (4) or a pump (10), the heating process of the heat accumulator (12; 12.1) by a heater (14) and by introducing water. The disclosed steam generator is characterized in that at least one section of the plane of the evaporation surface (13) encompasses at least one starter section (22) which is connected to the heat accumulator (12; 12.1) in such a way relative to the conduction of heat that the heat flowing from the heat accumulator (12; 12.1) to the starter section (22) is limited compared with the heat flowing to the remaining section of said plane.
