Description

A PORTABLE EXERCISING STICK
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates in general to construction forms and more specifically to a unique portable exercising sticks with resistance bands.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
It is well known in the prior art to which this invention appertains that utility or exercising sticks used as an aid in walking or skiing are commercially available in various forms, designs and styles for the satisfaction of the preferences of consumers or users. But there is one thins or feature that is still common to these sticks that is their being elongated or having an elongated body regardless of the variations in form, appearance or style. Oftentimes, such aesthetic aspect or functional . requirements such as: (1) the provision
- thereto of a form of resistance to the user' s pushing action, (2) making it conveniently adaptable as a complement for other related exercising devices such as a stepper or treadmill, (3) providing an effective length, and (4)making it very portable and simple to use.
Providing and/or incorporating all of these functionalities into the stick is seemingly impractical as it would make it a complex device not anymore suitable for use as a simple personal stick. Therefore, the proposed invention for a very simple and portable exercising stick with resistance is the answer to the required workout specs needed for an upper body exercising stick. It is in fact a perfect solution to the shortcoming of the prior art. There are disclosures in the prior art for sticks with accessories attached thereon such as holding implements or unit for other gadgets or components thereof not in use at the moment. Patent Nos . EP1547655 and DE10340135 disclose and teach such type of sticks commonly used for Nordic walking, trekking or skiing.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention seeks to overcome the shortcomings of the prior art by providing an exercising stick that can be used in combination with complementary stationary exercising devices and that basically comprises of a core means for sliding purposes and securing the exercising stick in place. This , unique exercising device of the herein present invention comprises of a minimum number of essential components allowing the same to be portable and transportable so that it can almost be used anywhere.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide an exercising stick which is portable and eliminates the use of a universal adapter.
Another object the of the present invention is to provide an exercising stick that can be used and easily be transported to any desired location and which readily complements with any stationary exercising devices.
Still, another object of the present invention is to provide for a unique exercising stick that has a very simple, but practical structural design and construction, thus, most economical to manufacture and highly marketable to commercialize.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent upon a reading of the ensuing detailed description taken in conjunction with the appended drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the present invention for a portable exercising stick in a non- retracted position;
Figure 2 is another perspective view showing the present invention for a portable exercising stick in a retracted position;
Figure 3 is an exploded view thereof; Figure 4a is front view thereof;
Figure 4b is side view thereof;
Figure 4c is rear view thereof;
Figure 5 is a detailed view of the means to support the tension cord on the stick member and core means; Figures 6 and 7 is a detailed view showing the manner of securing the tension cord on the supporting means thereof; and
Figure 8 is a perspective view showing the operation of the herein invention for a portable exercising stick.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Before describing the preferred embodiments of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the phraseologies and terminologies used herein are for the purposes of description and should not be regarded as limiting.
Referring now to the different views of the drawings, wherein like reference numerals designate the steps, components or elements throughout the succeeding description, there is shown the present invention for a portable exercising stick designated generally as 10.
Referring to figures 1 and 2, portable exercising stick 10 which is adapted to be supported to a rigid surface S when in use comprises of a core means 11 whose one end portion 11a is adapted to be in contact to said rigid surface S, at least an exercising stick member 12 slidably secured in a resisting manner along the core means 11, a resistance means R being provided intermediarilly on the exercising stick member 12 and core means 11 in an interconnecting manner, and means M to support said resistance means R on the exercising stick member 12 and the core means 11.
In accordance with the present invention, the core means 11 is defined by an elongated tubular body E and the exercising stick member 12 is defined by an elongated hollow tubular body T having a central channel 12a which is adapted to be telescopically secured along the tubular body E. The elongated tubular body E is formed with a smooth outer surface to allow the efficient sliding of the exercising stick 12 thereon.
As further shown in the drawings, the exercising stick member 12 has a substantially abbreviated length relative to the length of the core means 11 to define an effective sliding length L between the end portions 11a and 12a.
The portable exercising stick 10 further comprises of a hand supporting means 13 provided proximate one end portion 12b of said stick member 12. Means 13 is preferably in the form of a handle as shown in the drawings and having a grip portion 13a to allow the efficient retracting movement of the stick member 12 by the user along the effective length L as shown by arrows "a" and "b". Referring again to figures .1 and 2 and figures 5 to 7, the resistance means R is in the form of a tension cord 14 detachably secured to a means M to support the resistance means R which is provided on the core means 11 and stick member 12. As shown in figures 2, and 5 to 7, the means M to support the tension cord 14 (resistance means) comprises of a first supporting member 15 secured on one end portion 12a of the stick member 12 opposite the hand supporting means 13, and a second supporting member 16 secured on one end portion lib of the core means 11 and positioned adjacently to the hand supporting means 13.
Each of the supporting members 15 and 16 which are substantially identical is defined by a curved wall 15a, 16a, a space 15b, 16b formed by the spaced apart free end portions of the curved wall 15a, 16a and a slot S formed from a vertical wall 15c, 16c extending from the curved wall 15a, 16a.
Referring now in detail to figures 6 and 7, tension cord 14 is provided with connectors 17 at the opposed end portions thereof. Each of the connectors 17 are detachably secured to the first and second supporting members 15 and 16 by tightly securing an end portion 14a of the tension cord 14 to the slot S and subsequently locking-in connectors 17 into the spaces 15b, 16b formed on the supporting members by the curved walls 15a, 16a. As such, the tension rod 14 interconnects the stick member 12 and the core means 11 in a resisting manner. Varying tensions may be used and this may depend on the type of materials to be used for the tension cord 14.
The core means 11 and exercising stick member 12 is used in ' combination with and to a complementary stationary exercising device. Such devices may include a stepper, twister treadmill, stationary bicycle, stationary stair climber, and combination thereof.
Furthermore, the exercising stick member 12 may include sticks of the type such as Nordic stick, walking stick, skiing stick, jumping pole and mountain climbing stick. In usage as shown in figure 8, the end portion 11a is simply made into contact to a rigid surface S provided on wall. A pair of exercising sticks 10 and 10' in accordance with the present invention may be used in combination with any of the complementary stationary exercising devices as previously mentioned. Any desired effective length may be provided by increasing the length of the core means 11 during the production and manufacture of the product. Additional advantages and modifications of the present invention will readily occur to those skilled in the art in view of these teachings. The present invention in its broader aspects is not limited to the specific details, representative contrivances, and illustrative example of the portable exercising stick device shown and described herein. Accordingly, various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the novel features and general inventive concepts as defined in the appended claims and their equivalents.
