L'invention concerne un entraînement hydride (1) pour un véhicule, en particulier un véhicule automobile, qui présente au moins un moteur à combustion interne (2) et au moins une machine électrique (3), le moteur à combustion interne (2) présentant une installation (4) de gaz d'échappement dont l'énergie thermique ou une partie de celle-ci est amenée à un circuit (6) à vapeur et à fluide en vue de produire de la vapeur, la vapeur entraînant une machine de détente (7) qui entraîne un générateur électrique (10) dont l'énergie électrique produite est amenée à un accumulateur (14) d'énergie électrique et/ou à la machine électrique (3). En outre, l'invention concerne un procédé de gestion du fonctionnement d'un entraînement hybride d'un véhicule, en particulier d'un véhicule automobile, l'entraînement hydride étant équipé d'au moins un moteur à combustion interne et d'au moins une machine électrique, l'énergie thermique ou une partie de l'énergie thermique des gaz d'échappement du moteur à combustion interne étant apportée à un circuit de vapeur et de fluide en vue de produire de la vapeur, une machine à détente étant entraînée par la vapeur et entraînant un générateur électrique dont l'énergie électrique produite est apportée à un accumulateur d'énergie électrique et/ou à la machine électrique.
