Abstract

A panoramic image pickup device is focused on a reference tomographic plane, and scanning along the path of the tomographic plane is performed to collect frame data. From the frame data, a panoramic image of the tooth row the position of which is altered or a selected part of the same tooth row can be easily created. A combination of an X-ray source and a detector of the panoramic image pickup device is rotated around a subject while the device is focused on a predetermined reference tomographic plane. During the rotation, frame data on the digital quantities outputted from the detector is stored (step S44). According to correspondence information on the correspondence between the position in the real space and the gain defined as the slope of a curve shown in a coordinate system and determined by stored frame data and the map position of when a panoramic image is reconstructed by mapping the frame data onto a memory space, a panoramic image along a given intentional tomographic plane in the real space is created from the stored frame data (steps S45 to S51).
