Definitions
- the present invention relates to a compact for packaging product.
- a favoured, although not exclusive, application of the present invention is that of packaging cosmetic products.
- a "cosmetic product” is to be understood as meaning a product as defined in Council Directive 93/35/EEC of 14 June 1993.
- compacts intended for packaging products are, for example, used to store makeup products, such as an eyeshadow or a foundation, together, possibly, with an applicator.
- a compact such as this is described for example in document FR 2 863 838.
- This document discloses a compact with a drawer, fitted with an articulated mirror. This drawer can be moved between a closed position and an open position. A spring connecting the drawer to the compact allows the drawer to be driven from its closed position to its open position. For storage, a locking means holds the drawer in the compact in the closed position.
- This document discloses a compact that can be used as a powder compact.
- This compact comprises a case in which a body is slideably mounted.
- a lid is pivotably mounted on this body.
- This lid is subjected to the action of a torsion spring and can thus move automatically from a folded-down position into a deployed position when the body is moved from a closed position into an open position.
- Lugs provided on the side of the said body can then move in respective slots formed in the case.
- These slots which thus act as slideways, both have an end- stop front end which limits the travel of the compact relative to the case, and thus determines the full extent to which the body can be opened relative to the case.
- a disadvantage associated with a device such as this lies in particular in the problem of manufacturing tolerances associated with the design of the lugs on the body and their respective slots to ensure that these features collaborate with one another effectively and that the device thus operates correctly.
- the subject of the present invention is therefore a compact for packaging product, particularly a cosmetic product, comprising: a case comprising an opening, - a shuttle that can move in the said case between a retracted position inside the said case and an extended position, the said shuttle comprising a plate configured to accept the said product and a cover element mounted moveably on the said case, connecting means connecting the said shuttle with the said case and driving the movement of the said cover element when the said shuttle is moved from its retracted position to its extended position, in which the said connecting means are under a tension which increases during the movement from the retracted position to the extended position.
- the retracted position corresponds more or less to a closed position of the device in which position the product presented on the plate is rendered inaccessible.
- the plate being at least partially retracted into the case, and the extended position corresponds more or less to an open position of the device in which position the product presented by the plate is accessible, the plate being at least partially out of the case.
- the said cover element can at least partially cover the product when the said shuttle is in the retracted position and providing at least partial access to the product when the said shuttle is in the extended position.
- the tension in the connecting means decreases, and preferably does so abruptly, when moving from an extended position to a retracted position.
- a compact such as this is simple in design, easy to use and also provides a system for retaining the shuttle in the said case .
- the said connecting means are elastically deformable.
- a feature such as this allows the shuttle to be returned quickly and easily from its extended position to its retracted position.
- the shuttle is returned to its case almost automatically, a small movement of the cover element being enough to return the said cover element, together with the said plate, to inside the said case.
- an acute angle is formed between two portions of the connecting means .
- the tension varies differently for two contiguous portions of the connecting means.
- the said connecting means connect the said cover element to the said case.
- the said plate is provided with grasping means on which the user pulls in order to move the shuttle from the retracted position into the extended position.
- the said cover element is pivotably mounted on the said plate so that it can be moved angularly between a folded-down position and a deployed position.
- the angle between the cover element and the plate ranges between 90° and 170°, advantageously between 110° and 150°, and preferably measures 120°.
- the said cover element is articulated relative to the plate about a hinge, the said hinge running in a direction X, the connecting means running in a direction Y distinct from the said direction X.
- the connecting means are configured in such a way that there is an intermediate position of the cover element between a deployed position and a folded-down position from which the movement of the shuttle between the retracted position and the extended position is obtained solely as a result of the tension of the connecting means on the cover element.
- the said case comprises an abutment edge against which the said cover element butts in the deployed position.
- the said abutment edge has a chamfer.
- a chamfer such as this then allows the said cover element to be stabilized in the deployed position, since one face of the cover element rests against one face of this chamfer.
- the connecting means are bent in such a way that the position of the cover element is stable in the deployed position.
- the said cover element comprises a face facing the said plate when the said shuttle is in the retracted position, the said face being fitted with a mirror
- the said cover element comprises a first face and a second face, the said second face being positioned facing the plate when the said shuttle is in the retracted position, the said connecting means comprising a portion fixed to the said first face.
- the said case comprises an interior face, the said connecting means comprising a portion fixed to this interior face.
- the said interior face is a face situated at the opposite end to the opening of the case.
- the said interior face is a face adjacent to the opening of the case.
- Another subject of the present invention is the use of a compact for packaging product in which compact the product is an eyeshadow.
- Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of a packaging compact according to the present invention, in the retracted position
- Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 of a packaging compact according to the present invention, in the extended position
- FIG 3 is a schematic view in longitudinal section of the packaging compact depicted in Figure 1,
- Figure 4 is a schematic view in longitudinal section of the packaging compact depicted in Figure 2,
- Figure 5 is an enlarged detail, in longitudinal section, of an alternative form of embodiment of a part of the packaging compact depicted in Figure 4.
- the compact according to the present invention comprises two constituent parts, namely a case 1 and a shuttle 2, joined together by connecting means 3.
- the case 1 in this exemplary embodiment has a parallelepipedal overall configuration comprising an opening delimited by an edge 10.
- This opening gives access to the interior of the case 1.
- This case thus internally forms a housing defined by interior faces of the said case.
- this housing has a parallelepipedal overall configuration.
- a case such as this may house the shuttle 2.
- the opening delimited by the edge 10 is defined in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis Y of the case 1.
- the shuttle 2 has two constituent parts, namely a plate 20 and a cover element 21.
- the plate 20 advantageously comprises a front face provided with grasping means 4 that a user can grasp.
- These grasping means 4 may comprise a projection that the user can grasp between thumb and index finger.
- the plate 20 comprises an upper face 200, advantageously equipped with a housing 201 for a cosmetic product, such as an eyeshadow, a foundation, a care cream, etc.
- the cover element 21 comprises a first face 210 and a second face 211.
- the second face 211 advantageously comprises a mirror 5.
- This cover element 21 is mounted such that it can move relative to the plate 20.
- the cover element is pivotably mounted on the said plate about a hinge 6 with an attached hinge pin 60.
- This hinge pin may run transversely relative to the plate 20 in a direction X.
- the direction in which the axis X runs is, for example, perpendicular to the direction in which the axis Y runs.
- the cover element 21 can thus be moved relative to the plate 20 between a folded-down position and a deployed position. In the folded-down position, the second face
- the second face 211 faces the upper face 200 of the plate and, in particular, covers, preferably completely covers, the housing 201 intended to contain the cosmetic product.
- the second face 211 is moved relative to the plate 20 in such a way as to provide access to the housing 201.
- the cover element could equally be intended to be mounted such that it can move translationally relative to the plate 20 so that access to the housing 201 would be had by sliding the cover element 21 relative to the plate 20.
- the mirror 5 will then advantageously be provided on the first face 210 of the cover element 21.
- the plate 20 and the cover element 21, which together form the shuttle 2 may be introduced into the said case 1.
- the shape and size of the shuttle are preferably suited to the shape and size of the housing defined by the case so that the said shuttle fits perfectly inside the case. Such a fit allows the overall size of the packaging compact to be reduced down to the size of the case.
- This plate and this cover element therefore both in this nonlimiting exemplary embodiment have a parallelepipedal overall shape.
- the shuttle 2 can be moved in the said case between a retracted position depicted in Figures 1 and 3 and an extended position depicted in Figures 2 and 4.
- the shuttle 2 In the retracted position, the shuttle 2 is housed in the case 1 and advantageously only the grasping means 4 project relative to the edge 10 of the case.
- the shuttle 2 In the extended position, the shuttle 2 is partially, or even fully, out of the case 1. In the embodiment depicted, the movement between these two positions is had by sliding the shuttle 2 relative to the case 1, under the effect of the user pulling.
- the connecting means 3 connect the shuttle 2 to the case 1.
- Such means preferably provide a permanent connection such that the said shuttle 2 and the case 1 cannot be taken apart.
- These connecting means 3 comprise two fixing portions, one of them 300, fixing to the case 1 and the other, 310, fixing to the shuttle 2.
- these connecting means join the cover element 21 to the case
- the fixing portion 300 may be anchored on an interior face of the case, such as an interior face situated at the opposite end to the opening of the case.
- the other fixing portion 310 may be anchored on the first face 210 of the cover element, near or distant from the attached hinge pin 60.
- the said connecting means could be fixed in a different way.
- the fixing portion 300 could be fixed to a face adjacent to the opening of the case, at some greater or lesser distance from this opening.
- the other fixing portion 310 could, for its part, be fixed to the second face 211 of the cover element.
- a groove on the interior face of the case (not depicted) to at least partially accommodate there the connecting means 3, particularly when the shuttle is in the extended position.
- a recess 212 in the thickness of the cover element 21 to house the said connecting means 3.
- a recess such as this may be provided on the second face 211 of the cover element.
- the said connecting means extend into the said recess, between the said second face of the cover element and the mirror 5.
- An embodiment such as this then allows the mirror to hide the said connecting means 3.
- An alternative form of embodiment such as this gives the packaging compact a particularly attractive appearance.
- the connecting means may be fixed by any appropriate means, such as staking.
- Connecting means 3 such as this control the movement of the said cover element 21 with respect to the plate 20 between its folded-down position depicted in Figures 1 and 3 and its deployed position depicted in Figures 2 and 4. Furthermore, as will be explained later on in this description, these connecting means may also provide for the movement of the shuttle 2 from its extended position to its retracted position.
- the folded-down position of the cover element 21, which hides the housing 200 containing the cosmetic product, is obtained when the said shuttle 2 is in the retracted position.
- the deployed position of the cover element, which opens access to the housing containing cosmetic product, is obtained when the said shuttle 2 is in the extended position.
- the said connecting means 3 are under tension which increases as the said shuttle 2 is moved from its retracted position to its extended position. Conversely, the said connecting means 3 are under a tension which decreases as the said shuttle 2 is moved from its extended position to its retracted position.
- movement of the shuttle 2 from its retracted position to its extended position, and deployment of the cover element 21 relative to the plate 20, are accompanied by a stressing of the connecting means 3.
- movement of the shuttle 2 is essentially the result of the pulling of the shuttle 2, and in particular of the plate 20, via the grasping means 4. This pulling corresponds to a force that increases the tension in the connecting means .
- the extended position is stable and can be maintained without the need to sustain a pulling force on the shuttle. This is because the connecting means 3 under tension, exert a pulling action on the cover element 21 to bring the latter into abutment against the edge 10.
- the cover element 21 forms an angle strictly greater than 90° with respect to the plate 20.
- moving the shuttle 2 from its extended position into its retracted position and thus folding down the cover element 21 relative to the plate 20, is accompanied by a reduction in the tension in the connecting means 3.
- the shuttle 2 is moved from its extended position into its retracted position by pushing the shuttle, and particularly the plate, into the case.
- Such a return to the retracted position is facilitated by the connecting means which have a tendency to revert to a less stressed condition.
- the said connecting means 3 are elastically deformable.
- These connecting means may then be in the form of a simple elastic band made of any elastomer, or alternatively may be in the form of a spring of the tension type, such as a spiral -wound coil spring.
- the connecting means may be formed of a natural or synthetic rubber band of rectangular cross section preferably measuring around 1 mm by 2 mm, and with a stiffness preferably of 17 N/m.
- any other shape of cross section is permissible, and the stiffness could advantageously range between 3 and 100 N/m, according to the desired effect.
- the shuttle 2 is moved from its retracted position into the deployed position against the action of the force exerted by the connecting means 3.
- the user has merely to give the shuttle 2 some impetus, either by folding the cover element 21 down slightly onto the plate 20, or by pushing the plate 20 into the case.
- this avoids the user having to return the shuttle to its retracted position completely by hand.
- the method employed is that of folding the cover element 21 down or that of pushing the plate 20, all that is required is for the cover element 21 to be brought into at least one unstable intermediate position.
- An intermediate position of the cover element 21 such as this therefore lies between its deployed position and its folded-down position and allows the shuttle to be moved between the retracted position and the extended position merely as a tension of the connecting means 3 on the cover element 21.
- the angular position of the cover element in the intermediate position is dependent for the most part on the characteristics of the connecting means 3 used.
- Suitable stiffness of the connecting means as indicated hereinabove may, in the retracted position, restrict or even prevent any accidental movement of the shuttle 2 relative to the case from its retracted position to its extended position.
- the housing 201 containing the cosmetic product is more difficult to uncover thus avoiding any risk of accidental loss of product, for example when the compact is being carried around in a handbag, and therefore avoiding any soiling of items in contact with the said product.
- a stiffness such as this may allow the shuttle to be moved quickly and easily from its extended position to its retracted position, requiring very little effort on the part of the user.
- the connecting means 3 bend.
- an acute angle is formed between two portions 30, 31 of the connecting means 3.
- the two portions 30, 31 extending from the bend formed display a tension Tl and a tension T2 respectively.
- the tension Tl is defined between the fixing portion 300 and this bend.
- the tension T2 for its part is defined between this bend and the fixing portion 301.
- the tensions Tl and T2 differ from one another. This is because once the bend forms, the tension T2 remains stable while the tension Tl still varies until such time as the cover element 21 has reached its deployed position.
- a configuration of connecting means 3 such as this allows the cover element 21 to be stabilized in the deployed position and thus stabilizes the shuttle 2 in the extended position.
- the angle between the cover element 21 and the plate 20 ranges between 90° and 170°, advantageously between 110° and 150°, and preferably measures 120°.
- the said cover element may come into abutment against the edge 10 of the case when the shuttle is in the extended position.
- An edge such as this may possibly have a chamfer 100.
- the connecting means when the fixing portion 301 of the connecting means is designed to be near the attached hinge pin 60 (not depicted) , when the cover element is in the deployed position, the connecting means may lie in a straight line, rather than be bent. During the movement of the shuttle from the retracted position into the extended position, the tension in the connecting means then increases substantially uniformly and evenly.
- the connecting means 3 comprise at least one portion running in a direction Y distinct from the direction X in which the hinge pin of the cover element 21 runs.
- These two directions X and Y are preferably mutually perpendicular. An orientation such as this improves the movement of the shuttle 2 with respect to the case 1 and in particular makes it easier for the cover element 21 to move.
- illumination means (not depicted) .
- illumination means could for example be situated on the second face 211 of the cover element and, in particular, above the mirror 5.
- These illumination means could, for example, illuminate automatically when the cover element 21 is deployed and could be switched off automatically as soon as the cover element returns to the folded-down position.
