Abstract

A smart card with display, encoding device/card reader, and host controller for use in a gaming environment. The smart card with display may include the visual device by which a patron or other may identify some or all the contents of the card such as the amount of gaming credits and/or promotions. The card may be used for the issuance and redemption of gaming credits and/or promotions given to a patron where an encoding device/card reader may read, write and/or encode data to the smart card. One or a plurality of encoding devices/card readers may be coupled to a host controller where the host controller may signal an encoding device/card reader to dispense or redeem said cards. The host controller may include a networked game host controller, a player tracking system, and/or a promotional system used to issue, redeem, and/or track promotions given to a patron.
