Abstract

The present invention provides methods of producing an isoprenoid or an isoprenoid precursor in a host cell that comprises a biosynthetic pathway that converts a substrate to isopentenyl pyrophosphate, where the biosynthetic pathway is modified to include a synthetic intergenic region (IGR) between at least two coding regions encoding enzymes in the biosynthetic pathway. The present invention further provides recombinant nucleic acid constructs comprising a synthetic IGR, and genetically modified host cells comprising a synthetic IGR.
