Abstract

Disclosed is a reciprocating internal combustion engine comprising a working cylinder (1) to which a gaseous working medium can be applied that is discharged from a pressure vessel. A working piston (1a) that can be moved back and forth within the working cylinder (1) is disposed on and fixedly connected to a double-ended working piston rod (2, 2a). Said working piston rod (2, 2a) is guided out of the working cylinder (1) on both sides of the working piston (1a). Primary hydraulic pistons (3, 4) are arranged at both ends of the working piston rod (2, 2a) and can be moved back and forth within primary hydraulic cylinders (5, 6) that are connected to secondary hydraulic cylinders (9, 10) by means of hydraulic pipes (7, 8). Secondary hydraulic pistons (11, 12) are disposed inside the secondary hydraulic cylinders (9, 10). The linearly operating secondary hydraulic pistons (11, 12) can impart a rotary movement on a crankshaft (13) by means of connecting rods (27, 28).
