A cigarette (10) includes cigarette paper (12) comprising a base web (16) and at least one banded region (14) comprising iron oxide nanoparticles. The at least one banded region has a porosity less than the porosity of the base web such that the at least one banded region exhibits a slower burn rate compared to adjacent non-banded regions.
