Abstract

The present invention relates to an electronic control method that involves the transmission of a character sequence, characterised by the fact that in certain cases at least, the receiving apparatus selects the control to be executed according to the number of characters sent, the characters being indicative of parameters to be associated with the control. The invention is particularly adapted to an operator-assisted telephone system designed for users discouraged by modern telephone terminals. The user (11, 12, 13) is given a telephone terminal that connects him/her directly with an operator (14) having the assistance of a database (15) that provides for the preferences and instructions of the caller, in particular his/her telephone directory. The control system of the present invention allows the operator to provide the various services desired by the caller: call transfer, telephone parameter modification, alarm programming, etc., using shorter sequences for the regular controls and longer sequences for the less frequent controls.
