Abstract

Disclosed is a wood preservative agent for antiseptic purposes, which has a high anti-fungal effect and also has a high antiseptic effect on a wood material. Also disclosed is a method for the preservation of a wood material, which ensures the efficient control of a fungus that may cause rottenness of the wood material to thereby prevent the wood material from being rotted. The wood preservative agent comprises a compound represented by the general formula (I) as an active ingredient. (I) wherein R1 and R2 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a halogenated alkoxy group, provided that both of R1 and R2 do not represent a hydrogen atom in one molecule; R3 represents an alkyl group and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, or R3 and R4 together form a group represented by the formula: -CH2CH2-; and a group: (A) represents an aromatic heterocyclic group having 3 or 4 nitrogen atom which may have a substituent.
