- the invention relates to a device to trap and destroy insects such as mosquitoes, sand flies, insects and other living organisms.
- DDT was the first insecticide which proved very effective in killing mosquitoes and other insects, but continuous usage of this insecticide developed resistance of these insects to DDT. So much so, search for powerful insecticides started and many insecticides superior to DDT were discovered. Just as in the case of DDT every new insecticide proved effective only for few years because of their natural tendency to develop resistance in the insecticide mainly due to the frequent use of insecticides. Hence this race between the development of insecticides with increased potency and the increase in resistance by insects to these insecticides started and perhaps this may never end. It is also noticed that the widespread use of these insecticides seriously disturbs biological balance and causes ecological and environmental problems and hazards.
- the Vector control method requires elimination of breeding sources such as cesspools, gully water bodies and good maintenance of drainage system etc. This requires continuous monitoring and vigilance in implementing these methods. And it also requires co-operation between the health authorities and citizens. Even in the best of circumstance this can only reduce the population of disease causing insects and control the spread of the diseases. But it cannot ensure sound sleep to all persons and completely eliminate the diseases.

- This invention relates to a device for trapping and destroying insects which comprises a rotatable blowing unit mounted on a movable pedestal to downwardly blow air, a bag downwardly disposed from the periphery of the blowing unit, means to attract insects such as light sources emitting the desired coloured light and infra red light, sound-emitting means and means to provide chemicals such as sex hormones that attract the insect to be trapped, positioned above the blowing unit, an ionization chamber, said chamber positioned below the blowing unit and within said bag consisting of a box with two compartments, made of fine metal mesh provided with metal sheets fixedly, mounting a said mesh at regular intervals connected to neutral point of a high voltage battery and the upper compartment of said box having a metal plate with pin-like projections connected to one pole of sand high voltage battery, lower compartment of said box being connected to another pole of said battery such that on energization, high localized electric fields are produced to kill the insects which are attracted and blown downwardly into said bag.

- Bulb (4) emits light of a suitable colour depending upon the species of insects against which the trap is to be used.
- Other means of attracting insects like sound emitting devices, I R radiation lamp (5) are also mounted above the fan.
- Plank (6) is provided to position chemicals like sex hormones, which will attract the insect to the top.

- An ionizer consisting of two contra faced metallic combs (9) is connected to DC/AC power source, the ionizer consists of a box made , of fine metallic mesh (10) having two compartments. Metal plates (11) are fixed at regular intervals in these compartments.

- this instrument is effective in destroying mosquitoes and insects in the ambient air.
- the mosquitoes and insect population gets reduced in a short time by regular use. There after it needs to be run now and then. That means there is no need to run this instrument regularly after the mosquitoes population is reduced. If this is used, at least in half the number of households, mosquitoes and insects can be completely destroyed in residential areas.
- This device may be used to destroy harmful insects affecting horticulture, floriculture in cattle sheds and poultry forms by suitable modification.

Abstract
Cette invention porte sur un dispositif permettant de piéger et de tuer des insectes, tels que des moustiques. Elle comporte un support mobile et une unité de soufflage. Des sources de lumière attirant les insectes sont situées au-dessus de l'unité de soufflage, un ventilateur d'aspiration par exemple. Un sac en coton à mailles serrées est accroché au cadre de l'unité de soufflage sous l'unité elle-même. Le sac est équipé d'une unité d'ionisation permettant de créer une haute tension entre deux points et de tuer les insectes qui sont soufflés dans le sac par l'unité de soufflage. Le sac peut être détaché périodiquement pour nettoyage.
