Abstract

The invention relates to a vehicle display system (10) which comprises a display device (30), comprising a partially transparent element (50) and an optical system (40), in addition to a method for operating a vehicle display system (10). A virtual image can be produced for an observer (60) who is located on a first side of the partially transparent element (50), by means of the vehicle display system (10) on a second side of the partially transparent element (50) which is opposite to the first side. Light (44), which is to be transmitted to the first side through the partially transparent element (50) has a different polarisation state in relation to the light (42, 43) which is to be reflected on the second side of partially transparent element (50).
