Abstract

The invention relates to a fireplace (1) with a projection screen (2) onto which a light-generating patter varying through time is projected by at least one light source (3, 4, 5, 6, 7), this pattern corresponding to flames which appear to come from a simulated fuel bed (8) which comprise a cover (9) with the appearance of at least partly burnt pieces (10) of wood and/or coal. The fireplace has the special feature that the or each light source (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) comprises: an array (11) of LEDs (12-27) which all emit light in the direction of the projection screen (2); and a screen (28) arranged in front of the array (11) of LEDs (12-27) an having a light-transmitting opening (29) of a chosen form; the or each light source (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) is controlled by a processor (30) such that the image projected onto the projection screen (2) gives the illusion of natural moving flames.
