Abstract

A paraffin wick stove (10) comprising a fuel tank (12), a burner plate (38), ten wick holders (16), which extend between the tank (12) and the burner plate (38), a flame extinguishing mechanism (17), a surrounding frame (18) and a cooking top (20) which is supported on the frame (18). A pair of perforated cylinders (40), (42) having wick enclosures for each wick fixed thereto, are rotatably located on the burner plate. The mechanism (17) includes an actuating rod (58) and a holding rod (60) fixed thereto which projects through the burner plate (38) to engage a leg (70) of a torsion spring (56). When the tank (12) rests on a support surface (35), the rod (60) is held up and engages the spring leg (70). If the tank is lifted, the rod (60) is displaced downwardly by spring (64) releasing the spring leg (70) which causes the cylinders (40), (42) to rotate, bringing the wick enclosures into a wick enclosing position over the wicks (50) and smothering the flames burning at the ends of the wicks.
