Abstract
A power supply for peripheral devices using a PC98 moust port is disclosed. The power supply includes: a power supplying unit for receiving +5 V of power from a +5 V power source or a ground connecting terminal of a PC98 mouse port of a PC main body and supplying the +5V power to the peripheral device, or converting the received +5 V power to a predetermined level of power and supplying the converted power to the peripheral device; a first connector integrally disposed at a left side of the power supplying unit and connected to a PC98 mouse port of PC main body; and a second connector integrally disposed at a right side of the power supplying unit, having terminals connected to the terminals of the first connector through electric lines in one-by-one and connected to a mouse jack.

Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to a power supply for a peripheral device using a
PC98 mouse port; and more particularly, to a power supply for supplying electric power to a peripheral device through a PC98 mouse port of a personal computer.

Background Art
[3] According to dramatic development of a personal computer and a mobile communication technology, a personal computer (PC) becomes a necessary living appliance. In order to maximize the usability of the PC, various peripheral devices have been introduced.
[4] FIG. 1 shows conventional a power supply for peripheral devices and a PC. As shown, conventional peripheral devices 2 include a power supply to receive electric power, which is independent from a personal computer 1. Such a structure of supplying power to various peripheral devices makes a user inconvenient when the user uses several peripheral devices with a personal computer because the user must separately connect independent power supplies of the peripheral devices to a power outlet through the power cables thereof
[5] For example, peripheral devices for a notebook PC are generally developed to receive electric power through a personal computer memory card international association (PCMCIA) port. Therefore, the number of connectable peripheral devices is limited and a peripheral device must include a proper interface for the PCMCIA port. Also, a PCMCIA interface must be developed as ASIC because of a limited size. Therefore, manufacturing cost increases.

Technical Problem
[7] Accordingly, the present invention is directed to a power supply for a peripheral device through a PC98 mouse port of a PC, which substantially obviates one or more problems due to limitations and disadvantages of the related art.
[8] It is an object of the present invention to provides a power supply for a peripheral device through a PC98 mouse port of a PC in order to simply wiring of peripheral devices and to provide convenience to connect a communication peripheral device to a portable computer such as a notebook computer by using the PC98 mouse port of the
PC main body. [9]
Technical Solution
[10] Additional advantages, objects, and features of the invention will be set forth in part in the description which follows and in part will become apparent to those having ordinary skill in the art upon examination of the following or may be learned from practice of the invention. The objectives and other advantages of the invention may be realized and attained by the structure particularly pointed out in the written description and claims hereof as well as the appended drawings.
[11] To achieve these objects and other advantages and in accordance with the purpose of the invention, as embodied and broadly described herein, there is provided a power supply for a peripheral device for a personal computer (PC) including: a power supplying unit for receiving +5V of power from a +5V power source or a ground connecting terminal of a PC98 mouse port of a PC main body and supplying the +5V power to the peripheral device, or converting the received +5 V power to a predetermined level of power and supplying the converted power to the peripheral device; a first connector integrally disposed at a left side of the power supplying unit and connected to a PC98 mouse port of PC main body; and a second connector integrally disposed at a right side of the power supplying unit, having terminals connected to the terminals of the first connector through electric lines in one-by-one and connected to a mouse jack.
[12] The power supplying unit may include: a first power jack receives a +5V power from a crossing point between the first and the second connector and the ground terminal and supplying the received +5 power to the peripheral device; a DC/DC converter for receiving a +5V power from the crossing point between the first and the second connector and the ground terminal, converting the received +5V to a predetermined level of power and outputting the converted level of power; a second power jack for receiving the converted level of power from the DC/DC converter and supplying the converted level of power to the peripheral device; and a main body for housing the first, the second power jacks and the DC/DC converter.

Advantageous Effects
[14] The power supply according to the present invention simplifies wiring of peripheral devices of a personal computer and provides a convenience to connect the peripheal device by supplying power to the peripheral devices using the PC98 mouse port of the personal computer main body.
[15] Peripheral devices for a personal computer can be connected to a portable computer
such as a notebook computer using the power supply according to the present invention. Furthermore, a manufacturing cost can be reduced because a supplementary PCMCIA is not required to supply power to the peripheral devices.

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
[22] FIG. 3 is a block diagram illustrating a power supply for peripheral device using a
PC 98 mouse port according to an embodiment of the present invention. The power supply according to the present embodiment includes a power supplying unit 10, a first connector 20 and a second connector 30.
[23] The power supplying unit 10 receives +5V of electric power from a +5V power source pin 41 or 51 or a ground pin 42 or 52 in a PC98 mouse port 40 or 50, and supplies the +5 V power to the peripheral devices 2. Also, the power supplying unit 10 converts the received power to a predetermined level of power and supplies the predetermined level of power to the peripheral devices. The power supplying unit 10 includes a first power jack 11, a DC/DC converter 12, a second power jack 13 and a main body 14.
[24] The first power jack 11 receives electric power and supplies the power to the peripheral device 2 by being connected to a crossing point A between an electric line connecting the first power jack 11 and the DC/DC converter 12 and an electric line connecting the first power connector 20 and the second connector 30 or between an electric line connecting ground terminals of the first and the second connectors 20 30 and another electric lien connecting the first power jack 11 and the DC/DC converter 12.
[25] The DC/DC converter 12 receives +5V from the crossing point A or B between the ground and the first and the second connectors 20 and 30, and converts the received +5 V to a predetermined level of power. The second power jack 13 receives the predetermined level of power from the DC/DC converter 12 and supplies the pre-
determined level of power to the peripheral device 2.
[26] These first, second power jacks 11 and 13 and the DC/DC converter 12 are disposed inside the main body 14.
[27] The first connector 20 is integrally disposed at a left side of the power supplying unit 10. The first connector 20 is connected to the PC 98 mouse port 40 or 50 of the PC main body 1 as shown in FIG. 2. The first connector 20 may have a mini circular 9 pin structure for a PC 98 connector (a) shown in FIG. 2 or have a D-sub 9 bin structure connectable for a PC 98 connector (b) shown in FIG. 2.
[28] The second connector 30 is integrally disposed at a right side of the power supplying unit 10. The second connector 30 is connected to the first connector 20 through electric lines connecting terminals of the first connector 20 and terminals of the second connector 30 in one -by-one. The second connector 30 is connected to a mouse jack that is not shown in FIG. 3. The second connector 30 may have a mini circular 9 pin structure connectable for a PC 98 connector (a) shown in FIG. 2 or have a D-sub 9 bin structure connectable for a PC 98 connector (b) shown in FIG. 2.
[29] Hereinafter, operations of the power supply for peripheral device using a PC 98 mouse port according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to accompanying drawings.
[30] At first, a user connects the first connector 20 to the PC 98 mouse port 40 or 50 of the PC main body 1 and connects a mouse jack (not show) to the second connector 30.
[31] Then, the user connects the first power jack 11 to the peripheral device 1 using a predetermined power line when the user wants to connect the peripheral device 2 using +5 V to the PC main body 1. The power supplying unit 10 receives the +5 V of power from +5 V power source pin 41 or 51 or the ground connecting pin 42 or 52 of the PC98 mouse port 40 or 50 of the PC main body 1 and supplies the received +5V of power to the peripheral device 2.
[32] When the user wants to connect the peripheral device 2 using a predetermined level of power, the user connects the second power jack 13 to the peripheral device 2 using a predetermined power line. The, the power supplying unit 10 +5 V of power from +5 V power source pin 41 or 51 or the ground connecting pin 42 or 52 of the PC98 mouse port 40 or 50 of the PC main body 1, converts the received +5 V of power to a predetermined level of power and supplies the converted power to the peripheral device 2.
[33] It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made in the present invention. Thus, it is intended that the present invention covers the modifications and variations of this invention provided they come within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents
Claims
[1] A power supply for a peripheral device for a personal computer (PC) comprising: a power supplying unit for receiving +5V of power from a +5V power source or a ground connecting terminal of a PC98 mouse port of a PC main body and supplying the +5V power to the peripheral device, or converting the received +5 V power to a predetermined level of power and supplying the converted power to the peripheral device; a first connector integrally disposed at a left side of the power supplying unit and connected to a PC98 mouse port of PC main body; and a second connector integrally disposed at a right side of the power supplying unit, having terminals connected to the terminals of the first connector through electric lines in one-by-one and connected to a mouse jack.
[2] The power supply of claim 1, wherein the power supplying unit includes: a first power jack receives a +5V power from a crossing point between the first and the second connector and the ground terminal and supplying the received +5 power to the peripheral device; a DC/DC converter for receiving a +5V power from the crossing point between the first and the second connector and the ground terminal, converting the received +5V to a predetermined level of power and outputting the converted level of power; a second power jack for receiving the converted level of power from the DC/DC converter and supplying the converted level of power to the peripheral device; and a main body for housing the first, the second power jacks and the DC/DC converter.
[3] The power supply of claim 1, wherein the first and the second connectors have a
PC98 connector mini circular 9 pin structure or a PC98 connector D-sub 9 pin structure.
