Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method by which beverages can be dispensed, and a drinking vessel in which beverages can be dispensed, particularly in circumstances such as occur at football stadia where large numbers of beverages must be dispensed in a very short period of time.
  • each glass of wine to be sold is individually dispensed from either a bottle (which must be laboriously opened) or from a cask having a plastic dispensing tap. In either case, each glass is individually poured with the consequence that some are under filled and some are overfilled. As a result, some patrons feel that they have been short changed, or otherwise have not received full value for their money.
  • wine is often spilled if the glasses are overfilled to the point where wine spills over the rim of the glass, particularly during transport by the patron back to the patron's seat.
  • Another problem in such circumstances is disposing of the bottles since for every 1000 drinks dispensed there are approximately 200 empty bottles to be removed from the working space of the dispensing staff.
  • the genesis of the present invention is a desire to reduce or ameliorate the above-mentioned difficulties, at least to some extent, by the provision of both a method of dispensing and a drinking vessel.
  • a method of dispensing suitable for a predetermined volume of alcoholic beverage subject to excise or similar impost comprising the steps of: (i) locating said predetermined volume in an open topped drinking vessel, said vessel having a stacking mechanism rendering it stackable with a like vessel to form a stack of vessels,
  • a stackable, releasably sealed open topped drinking vessel said vessel having a circular rim defining said open top, a bowl located below said rim and above a base, said base and said bowl having an inter-engageable stacking mechanism to permit two said like vessels to be stacked one above the other, and said rim being releasably sealed by a sheet means extending thereacross.
  • a stack of the sealed abovementioned open topped drinking vessels there is disclosed.
  • a fourth aspect of the present invention there is disclosed a plurality of the nested empty abovementioned open topped drinking vessels.

  • the base 4 has a circular concavity 14 formed therein which is sized to be able to receive the rim 6 of a like vessel 1. • FIG. 3 A substantial advantage of the ability of the vessel 1 to stack is illustrated in Fig. 3 where an entire fridge 18 can have its interior filled with stacked vessels 1 in order that they can be cooled prior to consumption, which is the case particularly for white wine.

This enables the vessels 100 to stack when full and sealed.
  • the base 104 of another vessel 100 can be received within the bowl 102.

That is, using the vessels 1 or 100 a greater volume of wine can be located within the refrigerator 18 than would be the case with conventional glass bottles. Fourthly, there is no delay in the dispensing of the vessels since the tab 8 is able to be quickly lifted and this is to be contrasted with the delay involved in removing corks from conventional glass bottles, or even screw caps.
  • the vessels are able to be transported after being purchased with the partially opened disk 7 or 107 without spilling and this is to be contrasted with conventional wine glasses from which wine can splash, slosh or otherwise spill.

  • US Patent 2,996,208 discloses a champagne flute like plastic vessel which is fabricated in two parts, a lid and a bowl.
  • the lid seals the bowl contents prior to consumption. After removal of the lid from the bowl the lid is able to be joined with the base of the bowl to function as a stem and base for the vessel.
  • the length of the stem 3 can be increased, if desired, in order to create a "premium" vessel which is less efficient in stacking but for which an additional price might well be paid for the enhanced elegance of the vessel.
