Abstract

After borax (Na2B407) is melted by using induction coil at about 1000 C in a graphite crucible, it was electrolyzed at a voltage of 1.5-2.5 V at an iron cathode and in a graphite crucible as an anode. In order to separate elemental boron forming at the cathode, the cathode and separator are taken out together and are washed with water at 70-80 C. While the borax crystallized by cooling the borax solution which is formed is added into the crucible, the remaining solution is used in the washing' of the second part. In this way, elemental boron which has over' 99% purity is produced. It is determined that 8-10 A/dm2 is needed for wholly amorphous boron.
